What's Your Irritating Cop Story?

It was the 4th of July and I was 18 (years ago!). I was driving to see my girlfriend when a cop flashed his lights at me and pulled me over. I was not speeding and as far as I could tell had committed no offense. I asked him what was the reason and he said "An inspection sticker that didn't look quite right". I was dumbfounded. First, how could he tell from behind me and 2nd it was perfectly legal, normal sticker (the car was only a few years old at the time). He took my license and registration and I had to wait as he was trying to bust my chops. Of course everything was fine (to his displeasure) and then he proceeded to ask me what was wrapped in tin foil on the seat.

At this point I was so frustrated I picked it up and shoved it in his face. I said "Here, want some kielbasa!!" I was bringing some extra that my Mom made. At that point he let me go.

I guess I was a product of "age/sex profiling". Young male, 4th of July, so there must be something wrong! Booze, bad license/registration, fireworks etc..

Not bashing as they have a tough job but they have so much power in the streets that stuff like this happens.

Ha. MY irritating cop story beats YOUR irritating cop story. :p

My dad was one while I was a teenager - in a town only four paved blocks square wayyyyyyyyyyy up in the mountains 30 miles from the nearest stoplight even. Try hiding from the man in that small a place. Blech. Plus really tough to date... funny, but no guy wants to ask you out when your dad is 6'2", big, and carries a loaded gun. Go figure. ;)

Yeah, i'd have to say that cops have a tough job. I was considering a career in policing but I decided against it. Good thing.

My latest experience with a cop cheesed me off to no end. I was incredulous! Check it out:

I got off work and had to drive an hour to my grandmother-in-law's 80th celebration. I was getting on 40 minutes down the freeway in the "fast lane" doing about 113 in a 100 kph zone. I see a cop in the slow lane doing about 105 or so. There are two cars behind him. So, I decide to pull over into the slow lane and relax since there was no point getting excited since we're not going anywhere beyond passing the cop himself.

So, we drive another 10 minutes or so with everyone trailing the cop. All of a sudden I see the black and white cruiser put on his right turn signal moving over to the right shoulder of the freeway and then he turns on his hazards as he slows down as we pass him.

After his lights become a recent memory I decide to move into the fast lane since there was no one behind me for a little while. They all are cruising like everyone else. The car in front of me is a minivan which kinda blocks my vision and I don't like that.

I'm driving along and i'm not going any faster than before since I was really in no rush and no one is on my butt wanting to pass. I didn't accelerate or try anything stupid.

Then in my rear view I see this blur of a cop car cruiser flying towards me probably at 140 or so at least without it's lights flashing. I figure that he previously got a call and wanted to slow down for it and then found out it was an emergency and that's why he's flyin'. I signal and move back into the slow lane letting him through as a courtesy figuring that he'd fly by.

Nope, once he got beside me he slowed right down to our speed and proceeded to drive with us for another 20 seconds or so. I resisted the urge to look at him figuring that it would make no sense to give him any ammo to pull me over. We are all doing about 108 in a 100 zone so technically we are speeding.

He then speeds up, signals right into the slow lane ahead of the first guy and we proceed to drive the rest of the way for another 10 minutes doing the train and caboose thing turning off with everyone else into the main exit in city limits.

Needless to say I was pretty cheesed off at these cop tactics. Whatever. Slowing down, pretending to pull over and then speeding at an unsafe speed to try to catch "speeders" breaking from the pack? That's a neat trick. A dirty trick but a neat trick.

I've never seen that before and to this day I still wish I would have made eye contact with him and made some sort of gesture like a wink or a thumbs up. But hindsight is 20/20 and I don't have a ticket so that's good.

I've had several, probably due to my age & sex.

One that pissed me off, though, was passing a cop on the side of the road. I was doing probably 65 in a 55, no faster than anybody else on the road. I was in the fast lane, & at that time there was nobody bside me in the right hand lane. Stupid cop pulls across the right lane, into my lane, & pulls with probably 20 feet, right on my ass. He followed me like that for probably a minute, & then flicks on his lights, goes AROUND me, & shoots off to the next intersection.

Scared the crap outta me.

i was turning left at an intersection (facing north and turning west) -- i was waiting in the intersection for a space to turn.

as the light turns yellow, i begin to turn. then a cop pulls me over.

turns out that when the light turned yellow, pedestrians from the corner closest to my turn (northwest corner) started to cross. PEDESTRIANS CROSSING AS THE LIGHT TURNED YELLOW, MIND YOU. So the cop said I endangered the lives of the pedestrians, even though they f*cking crossed when they weren't supposed to.

I tried to reason with him and say that it wasn't my fault because they were the ones breaking the law. But he was a dick and gave me a ticket for that.

AGH. Still pisses me off to no extent!

Cops near my area do monthly "sweeps". I got caught in one on the way to work at 4am--yeah I was speeding, BUT as the cop is giving me a ticket, one of his buddies passes us, speeding just as fast as I was (no lights or siren on), so I say: "That guy is going at least as fast as I was. He needs a ticket too."
Cop says--slowly--as he continues to write: "I'm only responsible for myself, sir." Grrr.

OTOH, when my step-brother was little and his mom got stopped by a cop, when the cop came up to the driver's window, bro sticks his head out the back window and says: "Are you a dumb cop?"

Officer: Do you know why I pulled you over?

Me: Because you think I have donuts in here?

We all have bad cop stories - well except for me. In fact I've been pulled over once for doing 65 in a 50 and was given a warning, and another car a cop pulled out of a gas station to follow me (car was MADLY overloaded), so I pulled off road, then when he drove by I drove by him...a few minutes later after passing him who took out a speeder he puts lights on and asks why I pulled off road. I blurt that I was looking for a tape and he takes it, asks whats up me and my gf were coming back from university - could not see out the back at all - and he says have a nice day :)
