whats your gaming budget like ?

Since last year i have spent around 500$ for 10 games ... i just realized thats nearly double the cost of the whole damn console.

60$ doesn't look like a big deal while buying but it all add up. I have decided to rent more and buy less from now on.

I was wondering whats the gaming budget like for folks here at AT ?

I used to buy whatever I wanted. I cut back a bit since I never play them anyway. I might just start waiting until the games go down in price and picking them up then unless there's a nice special edition or I want to play it. I also cut back on movie spending as well.

I don't really have a budget, I buy what I want. If I figured out how much I spend on PS3/PC games and hardware, I'd probably faint.

Most games (especially single player games) I usually just wait for hot deals or wait until the used price gets to the $30 range. The only games I've spent $40 or more for in the last year were CoD4 ($40 from amazon) and Halo3 ($50+tax from costco). Last winter I stocked up on a bunch of games on hot deals. I guess it was holiday season. Doing some quick math, I spent $250-275, but I got 10 games out of it.

*EDIT: I don't really have a budget for it. But I only buy games I really want, and then I usually just wait for a hot deal or something for them. In terms of accessories, I've bought extra controllers and that's really it. Headsets, I guess.

I spend about a $100 a month on my ps3 since I have gotten it. Not just full retail games but also PSN games and periperhals for my ps3. Of course now that I have everything I want I will be spending less. I don't plan on buying any more games until september when Little Big Planet and Star Wars Force Unleashed come out.

So far I have bought a 40GB ps3, dual shock 3 controller, rock band, extra nyko rock band guitar, logitech driving force pro steering wheel, call of duty 4, drakes fortune uncharted, assassin's creed, unreal tournament 3, gran turismo 5 prologue and pre-ordered gta4. I just bought my ps3 in february so i have bought all this in three months.

my last 3 purchases were COD4 ($40 day after xmas), Burnout Paradise (used for $42), and Hot Shots Golf 5 ($50 at CC on sale).

not sure what the next game I'm going to buy will be but I don't really have a budget. i tend to play my games for a long time and don't see myself putting down HSG5 anytime soon.

This is pretty much my approach. Although I went on a bit of a spending spree on used 360 and GBA/DS games last month. 😱 Gotta be careful!

Now that I've been thinking about games, I think I'll pick up GT5: Prologue and a dual shock controller on the way home tonight. My God, this stuff is my crack. 🙁

Don't have a budget, but I really don't buy many games as it is. Plus my local public library rents Xbox 360/PS3/Wii games for free 😛 Got DMC4 from them about 5 days after it was released.

Wow that's cool.

I buy the big games when they come out (CoD 4, Halo 3, GTA IV, etc), the rest I wait until I can get them for < $30 and hopefully use a coupon or a B2G1 sale. Usually when they have the B2G1 sales I spend about $100 and get 6-9 games.

I'm the same way. I normally get my games at Target when they hit the clearance shelf.

I give myself a monthly "general entertainment' budget that video games fall under, but I rarely end up spending even a fraction of it. I would say I average maybe $40 a month - be it on a new game, a couple budget games, gaming accessories, or DLC.

I prefer to trade older games via GameTZ or the like, so it only ends up costing $2 to ship the thing. For new games, though, I'll just buy them. This month I just spent $50 on 5600 Microsoft Points (buy.com coupon). I got GTA IV for free (BB gift card) and that will likely hold me over until probably Too Human or Madden in August. Too Human is $25 with employee discount, and Madden is whatever EA wants to take from me.

Oh, and another year of Xbox Live for ~$35 in July. So yea, $40 a month is about right.

I'm still lucky to be grandfathered under my Blockbuster online plan that still gives me two free instore game rentals plus 4 movies out at a time and unlimited instore returns for $15 a month.

I usually stretch the rentals out to about 10 days at a time so I get 20 days of games a month for $15 plus all the movies to go along with it.

But otherwise, I have no set budget. I refuse to pay more than $40 for a game so I'll pick up sales when available. I haven't paid more than $10 for a game that's gone in my PS3. I've got a couple PSN downloads, All Pro Football cost me $10, and I have a couple PS2 games that I picked up for a couple bucks a piece.

I've got $1200 a month in daycare bills so my fun money is very limited.

Holy shit. How are you grandfathered in to that deal?

I had a 1 out at a time, 1 free game, unlimited returns for $10 a month and they wouldn't even let me keep that. They changed it to 1 out, 2 exchanges per month, and no free coupon. And you could only use your exchange for a discount on the game.

I don't know how I've managed to slip through the cracks. I'm just waiting for the day that they "fix the glitch" and I log in and see my account has been neutured.

The funny part is that I actually got set up for the account during their trial run for it through one of those "Free Ipod" pyramid scam things where you sign up for 12 different services.

Heh... I don't keep track. I'd be afraid to add it up. I have all the current consoles as well as a good gaming PC. Actually, I keep costs down by making heavy use Gamefly for my consoles. So it's probably not too bad, except for the years when the new consoles launch or when I need to upgrade my PC.

It depends. Sometimes I would go on for years w/o buying a new system or game. Sometimes I would buy a dozen games a month for a new system I bought. But usually I buy a new system a year after it debuts and a few 9+ rated games to go w/ the system.

lets see.... my last 5 games were free thanks to the one website....... so ill just keep getting all the games i need for free. 🙂

got cod4, burnout, mass effect, gh3, and now gta preordered.

usually between $15 - $60 a month depending on what came out and how cheap I can get it used from someone.

Targets are hit or miss, the "clearance" prices can vary wildly between stores, but they do have some amazing deals if you're lucky enough to find them.

There's one Target that's too far from me to check frequently, but a friend lives nearby and he checks it for me now and then. I got Stranglehold and Crackdown for $15 each and Lego Star Wars 2 for $5. Awesome deals.

There aren't many games I'll pay full price for. GTA4 is one. I also bought Burnout Paradise at full price because I wanted to at least have at least one game that lots of my friends are playing online.

I usually get... 6-8 new games a year. Sometimes more, sometimes less. But they are only games that I truly like.

I am anticipating the purchase of 4 games a year.

So, about $240. I'll be more than willing to buy older titles though,. Only GTA4 is a game that I want now.

Figure in a startup cost of $550 (one time).

My budget is "whatever I feel like spending", so probably about a thousand bucks a year. I can comfortably afford that with no problem, especially considering I tend to buy used and off the forums / eBay.

I have a feeling my gaming spending is going to basically crater over the rest of 2008 and 2009, though - no new consoles/handhelds coming out, and I've got a huge backlog of RPGs to finish.
