Mercury is the shiznit! Without it we would freeze or burn to death cause you could not tell the temperature of anything!

Titanium. Its capable of withstanding intense heat, is strong and doesn't weigh a lot.

Aluminum: cheap, strong enough for most uses, and very easy to machine (except for tapping threads, which is an occasional annoyance).

IMO, it's a titanium VS Aluminium battle. The thing is, titanium isn't cheap like aluminium, but it does have major advantages. Also, I think titanium is not as conductive as aluminium.

I think that Aluminium wins where price matters, and where it doesn't Titanum wins. :D

Dont forget steel! It's stronger than aluminium and cheaper than titanium.

True, steel ranks just below Aluminiums and Titanium in my book. Steel's high weight and aluminium's superior conductivity gives Aluminium the win in my book.

IMO....

Aluminium > Titanium > Steel > copper > gold > silver > mercury > platinum > lead
