OP don't actually waste your time watching Pootie Tang, that was a facetious suggestion that was meant to contrast my smug and "holier than thou" shtick for (obviously poor) comedic effect.

There are several different types of and sub-genres in comedy, and most people tend to gravitate towards one style that is most amusing to them.

Since you like "Bad Grandpa", which is gonzo-style humor, you may enjoy Sasha Baron Cohen's movies. He is basically the modern day king of gonzo comedy.

Racial/Stereotype/Taboo humor is one of the genres Mel Brooks is known for, with Blazzing Saddles being the epitome, IMO.

If you like "slapstick", or physical comedy, a la 3 Stooges and Chris Farley (self induced pain and injury, people getting kicked in the nuts, etc) then check out the Jackass series.

Of the two main types of relationship/situational comedy, (one geared towards men and one towards women) I personally love the comedy geared towards men. (Old School, 40yr old Virgin, Wedding Crashers, to name just a couple modern examples.)

The Big Lebowski became my favorite comedy the first time I saw it, and nothing has unseated it since.

The Big Lebowski is really such a phenomenal movie.

It really hits a spot with me because growing up, one of my dad's friends was literally 'the Dude'. I mean, he was an ex hippy, burn out to the T. The guy's name was 'Big Tim'...

The funniest movie I've ever seen was called 'Fear of a Black Hat'. It is the 90's hip hop version of Spinal Tap. And, if you get all the references, it is hilarious.

Agreed. If you can stand silent films The Gold Rush is still really funny.

I was torn between Modern Times, The Kid, City Lights, and The Great Dictator.
I went with the Great Dictator only because of it's satirical nature and it's historical significance (After all, when it was Released, Germany and the US were HUGE trading partners.)

Inclusion of Dr. Strangelove and exclusion of Dumb and Dumber .... I'm guessing that you are in your mid 40s.

Comedies I have seen more than once .... more like 10 times....
Hell, I'll even rank them in order of what I think the best are...

Dumb and Dumber (constant jokes that work)
The Holy Grail (anyone doubting this?)
Ghostbusters (need I say more)
Cable Guy (see it more than once, trust me on this)
Office Space (kinda dated at this point but still watched it a lot)

+1

I love Mel Brooks one liners, on that note The Producers was pretty good also.

And Spaceballs.

That and Fierce Creatures as follow up to A Fish Called Wanda.

Caddyshack still has a special place for me, it came out while I was in Marine Corps bootcamp.

We were close to graduating, the DI's lined us up and we had no idea what was going on, they marched us to the theater on base after three months of ball busting, non stop training, had us go in and sit, then the lights went down and we heard "Enjoy" and Caddyshack started.

Talk about a theater just losing it.

Well, there's an age factor, but you have it figured out backwards. Omission of Dr Strangelove and inclusion of Dumb and Dumber demonstrates the magical time in a persons life where IQ and age meet at right around 30.
