I like a good, dark French roast (I don't honestly care if it's fair trade, shade-grown, conflict-free, green-friendly whatever the fuck is en vogue these days, but I live in Portland, so if I ever admitted that aloud, I'd be mauled by wild hippies). I prefer coffee made in a French press, but at the moment I have nothing to make my own coffee in.

It just struck me that French roast in a French press sounds a little too French, so I'm changing my preferences to a Freedom roast in a Victory press.

-10 points for hating farmers and the environment.
+2 points for knowing what a french press is

Kona only for me. I like my coffee made in the USA. I use one of those Keurig machines with a reusable filter (instead of the awful prepackaged crap they sell).

5) A few pourovers
6) Mazzer Mini grinder
7) Homemade coffee roaster

#2 is my new found love. Alaskan Brewing Company has the best. I buy it online

my old favorite is sulawesi, but i'm currently digging the kenyan. if you're near a peet's coffee, you must try the major dickason's blend.

i dumped my cuisinart 12-cup drip for an 8-cup french press, but i'm looking for a 12-cup press with a better filter (all i've found seem to be identical, tho. i wouldn't be surprised if they all come from the same chinese factory). i grind in a small cuisinart grinder - i like it much more than my old braun. i use unrefined turbinado sugar and a splash of milk or cream, no preference really. but i'm not going to buy cream and milk when the milk does me just fine.

Ok, this is what I do.

I go to a coffee roastery. I buy beans (usually their house blend), that were roasted that week. Coffee beans go stale 2 weeks after roasting. I then grind up the beans, place in a french press, add boiling water. I let this sit for 3-4 minutes, then pour and enjoy black.

Fresh coffee is the way to go. Starbucks coffee is beyond stale. (roasted months before you buy it off the shelf. My next endeavor will be to buy a bean roaster and order unroasted beans online.

100% Kona coffee. There were a few local places in HI that I prefered, but it has been too many years to remember which farms had the best.
Jamacian Blue Mountin coffee is also rather tasty.
It makes it so much better to grind ones own coffee.

I got this at a thrift store for $10 and it is such a great coffeemaker...

The only thing its missing to me is that it doesn't have a thermal carafe but I may mod it so it can use one

as far as my favorite coffees lately...

Aldi's Kona blend was very good.. I made some cold brewed iced coffee with it and my sister said it was better than dunkin donuts iced coffee
Cafe Bustelo is pretty good if you like dark espresso roasts
I used to hate on Maxwell House but I'm pretty impressed with their Dark Roast in the big blue container.

I stopped spending $8 or $9 on 12 oz of coffee a la Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts. Seattle's best I like and its a bit cheaper than that I've noticed.

Whatever the wife brings home from Starbuck's. A pound a week gives a good variety of coffee choice. I prefer the "Bold" coffees. And a french press

I am a cheap ass and buy the 2 1/2 pound Costco Sumatra for 10 bucks. It's decent. I am not a coffee snob but I do drink about 5 cups a day - black. As long as the coffee is hot and relatively fresh I don't care that much. *shrug*
