What's your favorite tranny?

I listed some that exist currently.

Also, if you could have a custom tranny in a car, what would you want?
In a few years many cars will at least be partially powered by electric motors, so here is the kind of tranny I would want:

I'd want three settings: Drive, Neutral, and Reverse.
In either Drive or Reverse the car has a bit of "creep" and also has regenerative braking whenever the car goes faster than the gas pedal would otherwise make it go (like when coasting downhill), and whenever pressing on the brake pedal. Shouldn't be any regenerative braking in other circumstances. In Neutral, the car would coast without any regenerative braking or creep. Makes it easier to do 360's and crap like that 😉

For today's cars, I wouldn't mind something like a Tiptronic 🙂

vroom vroom.. i still like the feel of the clutch against my left foot. tiptronic is for wannabe manual driver.

heh...for a second I thought this was going to be about transvestites. 😛

I suppose by Sports automatic you mean the ones on the new DB8 and F1 cars?

I think they are called touch pedals or something like that where the pedals are on the steering so that the driver can keep both hands on the wheel instead of moving there right hand down.

As for clutchless shifters I believe the McLaren F1 is a clutchless shift.

There's this tranny who bags groceries at the local store. She's not real good looking, but she's pretty nice, so I guess she's my favorite tranny.

I think they don't make those because they would be very unsafe. If the brakes fail, you're done... No way to downshift into 2nd or 1st, like most other auto trannies.

Mine? Prolly a good ol' Toploader! None of this fancy sh*t for me, just need a tranny that candle handle good ol' fashioned horsepower!

Mine would have to be the good ol' fashion A1 VW (circa 1983, 1984) GTi 5 Speed (I forget the code for it, but I'm sure yakko will chime in and remind me). Real close ratios. Switch out the 5th gear with a higher one from a non-GTi model and you've got a 5th gear good for low rev cruising. 😉

Of course a good C-6 with a shift kit and a B&M stall converter is cool too. I had that behind a 428 Cobra Torino, back in high school. 😀

The Porsche 901 tranny. Easy to work on, fairly durable, and a weird shift pattern so if someone tries to steal the car, they end up taking off in Reverse.

IMHO, the greatest tranny ever was the 5 speed manual on the original miata. That was a sweet shift when you put on a short handle!

only problem is that all porsche's use that shift pattern....so a knowledgeable theif would know anyways. Plus it's not very hidden on the shift ball 😉.

TH400 with trans brake, reversed pattern valve body, 4500rpm stall converter, and low first gear. At work we have a '67 Caprice with 10 inch wide tires that runs low 10's on HP and low 8's on spray. We put wheelie bars and 12 wide tires on this winter and shaved a couple of pounds and hope to break into the 7's this summer. That should give us a shot at winning a few super stock events in the midwest.

True manual gearbox for sure.......

my car has been in the shop for the last 2 days getting a new bumper and headlight due to a fender bender and i miss driving the stick SO MUCH already..
automatic really truly sucks since i have owned a manual car for the last year plus.. the car i am driving now is sweet (2000 Maxima) but its an automatic and it's no fun to drive cause of the crappy auto...
