The new Shuffle is the best as it clips onto you and it is quite small. I barely know it is there.

My gf just got one and the thing feels like a toy. You can get a refurb nano for about the same price and the build quality is MUCH better.

Eh? How so? Mine is as solid as can be. Apple's DAPs don't exactly have a reputation for build quality...

Not to mention that crappy ITunes junk you need to use. I'll just drag my MP3's to a folder, thank you very much.

sigh. what an awful complaint. iTunes isn't junk, it works quite well and allows you to have album art and really clean things up. It's so easy a retard could use it, I guess the "drag and drop" advocates are retarded for finding it so difficult to use.

I have it installed for my daughter's Nano. It's a pain in the arse. Half the time it doesn't recognize the Nano is plugged in (even though Windows sees it), if you try to sync something that didn't come from iTunes it's a hassle, no WMA support...the only reason people think it's good because they don't know any better.

You're complaining about Itunes?

I love the auto-organize feature...I was using Itunes long before I had an Ipod

[Edit] And yes, I know better ;)

Pfft. I have a Zen Sleek and I have more trouble with Windows seeing THAT than I do with my gen 2 Shuffle.

iTunes works just fine with all the content I had on my Zen. I don't understand why you can't get it to work. It's child's play.

If you don't like itunes then don't use it. There are plenty of alternatives.

I use my ipod photo at the gym. It's fine when running on a treadmill because you can put it on the dashboard. Wouldn't try it running on a track, though.

It's not just me...pretty much anyone I know has had similar issues. I've had 3 iPods and 5 Creative MP3 players in the house since '99. Creative products plug in and show up as a hard drive instantly and you can move it from computer to computer with no problems. Move a Nano to a new computer and you have to go through all this resyncing crap, plus you have to designate a part of your Nano to be used as a hard drive. Pfft back at ya.

There must be something in the water where you live. Or is your cousin also your girlfriend?

Chalk up another vote for the Sansa E200 series. Small, feels solid and it has more features for the money than the Nano. Battery life is awesome. You can use it in MSC or MTP mode so you can plug it in to any computer without installing anything. The new Creative Zen Stone looks pretty decent, especially for the price if the only thing you want it for is mp3 playback.

If you are using it for working out, stay away from HDD based players, they're just not as shock resistant as the flash based players. In general, you'll wear 'em out if you jostle them too much.

Whatever you get, put on a BSE (Best Skin Ever). Costs about $10, but it wil protect it from scratches and scuffs and you'll never know it's there.

2nd gen iPod Shuffle clipped to my collar. I never worry about snagging my headphone cable on weight equipment anymore.

I am using a 4GB iPod Nano right now but I will probably purchase a new Shuffle just for working out and running.
