RazorLAME, hands down! There is no comparison. Some use CDex but I find RazorLAME superior. Use EAC to Rip and RazorLAME to encode and you will have the best mp3s available.

Yeah, I just went to Lucows and saw CDEX looked pretty good. I've used it ever since with the LAME encoder. BTW, how can you do variable bit encoding? I can't find the option. Is it any good?

check out r3mix.net, there's a lot of good info on encoding there. ever since then i've been using EAC to rip and razorlame to encode, it's the best combo i've come across, and extremely easy and fast. pop in 5 cds, rip, and set razorlame to encode when you're asleep. eac also lets you customize the tag, here's what i use

Dave Matthews Band - [Crash - 04] Too Much.mp3

r3mix also gives you the exact settings string to plug into LAME for CD quality, that's what i've been using

I think EAC is a slightly better ripper than CDex since EAC reads the track multiple times to ensure the integrity of the rip.

I personally use EAC to rip and CDex as the front-end for LAME. I like how CDex allows MP3 to Mp3 encoding so that I can reduce the bit rates for my Nomad.

Audiocatalyst

IMO: Don't use this program. Read the website posted above for information. I used Audiocatalyst for a couple years. It works great, encodes VBR, sounds pretty good. A couple months ago, I switched to EAC and RazorLame. The sound quality is SOOOOOO much better. I'm in the process of re-ripping all my cd's with RazorLAME because I notice the difference.

I use A/C ( audio Catalyst) I have on my PC Audio Grabber, but do not use it. A/C works great for me, and everyone always prefers my rips.
