What's your favorite kitchen gadget?

SunnyD

Belgian Waffler
I've been cooking for most of the last two weeks at home (no my wife isn't on strike, I've been the one with all the recipe ideas for the time frame). On tap for tomorrow will be beef on weck, so I've been pricing out deli slicers - I want one anyway for other things. It got me thinking what my favorite kitchen gadget is.

I'd have to say hands down - my food chopper is my all-time favorite prep tool.

A close second would probably be my cast-iron griddle (similar to this one).

What's all your favorite kitchen toys? (I assume half of you are going to post your rice cookers... :roll🙂

Garlic roaster.

My In-Laws gave us this one Christmas and I remember thinking how useless a device it was at the time but once I used it I love it! Now I don't have to heat up the entire oven just to roast 2 cloves of garlic. Everytime I make a pasta dish with garlic bread I use it (the garlic becomes a paste you can spread right on the bread). I also use it to roast garlic for sauces and sometimes as a topping on pizza.

I prefer a German Cleaver personally. I definitely prefer German Cleavage. 😉

Chinese Cleaver as in the light everyday cleaver, not the big butcher cleaver.

As to Cleavage, I am not very picky 🙂

Blendtec blender. Best. Purchase. Ever. I still gag at the price, but it hasn't let me down once in the year or two I've owned it (broke 3 other blenders before finally getting the Blendtec).

I think I have more kitchen gadgets than computer gadgets. I think my top 5 would be:

1. Blendtec blender
2. FoodSaver (vacuum sealer)
3. George Foreman grill
4. Rice cooker (fuzzy logic ftw)
5. Deli slicer

If you're looking at a deli slicer, be sure to pick up those smaller chicken/turkey/ham/whatever boneless breasts at the store. All you have to do is cook them in a pan of water in the oven for an hour then slice them up, tastes WAY better than the deli stuff and you save a ton of $$$. Then use the FoodSaver to vacuum-seal 1-pound packages and throw them in the freezer. I only have to buy meat like once a month at most 😀
