What's your favorite HSF for low, medium & high price range?

What's your favorite HSF for low, medium & high price range?

I ask cause I feel like maybe I've become complacent. I don't think about it anymore. If I want the best and thus the quietest, I use the pricey SLK-900. If I want to stay reasonable I just use the Thermalright SK-7 with an H1A 80mm panaflo and have done with it. If I want to economize I just pretty much stop sweating the noise and just get something like the Thermaltake Slim Volcano 8.

What are your personal preferences?

I've used an Alpha 8045 (but it's a pain to take off and such), so I've switched to a Thermalright AX-7 (great clip) with a Panaflo H1A, which cools my TBred-B 1700+ @2.35GHz very nicely... and quietly too

Shady is right. Here's how it goes:
cheap: Coolermaster (up to the HAC-V81)
not cheap: Thermalright
'cause all but a very, very few people are happy with the
SK-6+,
AX-7,
SK-7,
SLK-800(a),
SLK-800(u),
and
SLK900(u).

Cheap: SVC GC68. I have 4 of them, 2 in each of my dual XP rigs.

For my overclocked XP1700+ at 1.9GHz, I use a Thermalright AX-7 with panaflo L1A.

I think the SLK800 wins out in the medium and high price range. It is one of the best all around coolers regardless of price. The SLK900 may cool a bit better, but it does not fit on every board. It may fit the board you purchased now, but will it fit your next board? The SLK800 fits almost all boards and can be bought for under $30.

The GC68 also seems to be an excellent HS for only $5.

SLk900... man if you want some good ideas on these two heatsinks. PM me, I did some really simple mods to mine, and the CPU temps almost the same as the case temps, and my case is loaded with high rpm fans. The CPU is overclocked 400mhz also at 2v. Its a 38c and very hot in this room.(1800+ TB)

Cheap - generic POS from computer shows
Midrange - Alpha 8045
High End - probably an SLK-900 or one of those Swiftech 462 things.

I've never used anything better (more expensive) than an 8045; they've treated me, and the CPU's they cool, quite well.

They cost about the same (~$38) on svc.com but the Swiftech one is sold out. :frown: I want to know which performs/fits better in an Asus P4P800 mobo. Also, if anyone can tell me where the cheapest place to get one is, I'd really appreciate it!!

Do a search. This is discussed 100x a week in this forum For all you noobs...people like to talk a lot of shizzle about their heatsinks...read some reviews though...even the best heatsinks on the market...cough slk900 cough...are only a few degrees cooler than the inexpensive models...cough sk7 cough.

SVC usually has them for cheap....but their service often sucks, and is very hit or miss.

I use an alpha 8045, but that's because it's the biggest thing that will fit on my a7n8x delux. Great heatsink in my opinion.

Price up the butt= Zalman 7000cu My favorite HSF. I love mine

if it says "Intel Pentium IV Compatibility (Socket 478): Northwood (0.13 micron) 3.06GHz and Higher", does that mean it won't work on sub-3.06 processors? or does it mean its backwards-compatible to my P4 2.8? ur rite i AM a newbie. but thats only becuz i dont wanna spend money and do the wrong things....We're all in these forums to learn something!

That in short means the tiasol is reccomended for 90% of users, SK7 for the 10% performance users and 0% for the slk900, since people who want that sort of heatsink usually know what to get already

...but then i've only used the taisol myself



also, slk700? everyone has said the sk7, why prefer it over slk700?
