My dream case would be one like Hotblack Desatio's stuntship from TTATEOTU* - so completely black you can't see it, more like the apparent absence of anything else.

sounds alot like my plans for my supermicro 750 I'm going to mod :D

I had an Addtronics 7890, which, for all intents and purposes, is the 750.

Shortcomings:
Only one floppy bay. Rest require conversion of 5.25" bays (not like there's a shortage of those, but it doesn't look as "exacting")
Very few hard drive mounting bays. None of them are cooled.
Removable mobo tray. Rattle-o-rama
Large expanses of flat metal. Until I went hog-wild and covered the inner surfaces with Dynamat (I think my current case, empty, weighs as much as one of the hearse-style side "doors" after the mod), and made 120mm fan mounts, the thing made horrid amounts of noise.
No bushings or grommets for moving things. Instead, we get plastic fan cages that rattle. It's okay for servers, but even in 1999 there were better alternatives (Palo Alto PA810) for home users.

Sincerely,

The resident cases and motherboards pundit :)

well my mod plans that I started yesterday take care of most of these shortcommings.

stiped down the case yesterday and going to paint the chassie with truck undercoasting to act as a deadner.

the 750 does not have a removable tray so thats not an issue.

floppy bay isn't even an issue and I'm bondoing over the current one because I don't use them

my rad is going to be up front so I'm getting rid of the cages up thier and making holes for a pair of 120mm fans.

getting rid of the current HD cages and going to fabricate a new one to go above the PSU and going to make the 90mm fan thier and make it a 120mm. going to try and make the 60mm fan a 120mm fan but don't know if I can figure out a neat way to that if I can't I'll just make a blow hole.

got alot of other ideas for the case but would take to long to explain here but I'll make a post with pics when its complete

i'm startin to really like the chenbro gaming bomb 2. if the pc-v1000 and the gaming bomb 2 were somehow mixed, it would turn exactly into the apple G5 case.

I've entertained the idea of making one out of stained and sealed redwood with acrylic windows. how bitchin' would that be?

edit: of course there would be some grounding straps having to be taken into it to keep things grounded properly.

If a Mid-size Aluminum case had the following, id be my dream case:

Removable mobo tray
Dual 120mm Front fans
1 120mm Top exhaust
1 120mm rear exhaust
Some sort of muffling system for intake and exhaust which doesnt kill cooling ability
4x 5.25" bays
no floppy bays
HDD suspension for at least 2 HDDs
No front door
Lexan window on side panel
at least 1mm thick aluminum panels
Some sort of effective means to kill resonation without adding too much weight
At least 2 Front USB ports, dont need Headphone/firewire
Little to no noise

My dream case...

-All aluminium construction, extra thick around door hinges and area's where screws and movement occour.
-Simaller to the V-1xxx series with the power supply and hard drives at the bottom.
-2 5.25" drive bays with a faceplate for optical drives.
-1 exposed 3.5" drive bay for a card reader
-Soundproof material all in side of the case
-A metal loop for a place to lock the back of the case, the powersupply cannot be removed with the side on.
-A area for hard drives with a single 120 mm Fan and then the powersupply behind them that would suck that air out
-Able to completely fit 2 Optical drives and 8 3.5" hard drives half IDE and half S-ATA and the ablity to get around in the case
-exhaust for the motherboard would be 2 120mm fans that would snap on or off with rubber groments and a wiremesh. It could easily be retrofited into holding a radiator.
-Firewire USB, Audio In, Audio Out on the top front of the case
-Reset button and power button. The power button lights up with the on symbol.
-Hard drives and optical drives use a sturdy rail system.

Here's the stuff I'd like to see:

1. No Drive bay door
2. 120mm Fan front and back (filter on front fan)
3. 4X HDD with rubber mounts
4. 4X 5.25" Drive Bays
4a. Thumbscrews for 5.25" Drives (no rails)
4b. Those plastic quick release levers might be OK
5. 2X 3.25" Drive Bays
5a,b. Thumbscrews or levers for 3.25" Drives
6. 2X Front USB w/header and 1X Front Firewire w/header (none of that pass through crap).
6a. The front ports should be low on the computer, but even better would be a module that could be put either on the top or the bottom, maybe with a duplicate fan controller module that could be on the opposite side.
7. Thumbscrews for PCI expansion slots (no plastic snaps)
8. Seperate, removeable, PCI slot covers (no punch outs)
9. Separate, removeable, right and left side covers.
10. Mobo mount plain that had cutout around CPU area so hopefully you could mount a heatsink without pulling your MoBo off the tray.

I don't really care about a removable MB tray, but I'd like to see a fairly wide and deep case so HDD access is realatvely easy. So far I have not found my perfect case, but I like the Kingwin that everyone keeps talking about. There's also another one (CompuCase I think) that is similar to one of the Antecs but without the front door that I like.

For the exterior I prefer a Black or Silver case with an understated, plain look and no side or top windows or fans.

-D'oh!

This is in reply to Odeen's dream case:

You failed to mention not having any sharp corners to cut your hands on! I know this from experience. That's why my nod goes to the Lian Li PC-V series. The finish on the inside is impeccable (sp). My dream case right now is the PC-V2000B. Plenty of room, better orientation. The pals over at overclockers have a good review. The link is:

I am currently using a CoolerMaster WaveMaster. I like it, but it is a little small. My dream case is the SILVERSTONE "SST-TJ03". I am loving it in silver

prhamil52 said it best :)
