What's your cycling attire for commuting?

I live 3 times from work, so whenever I can, I would bike to work. This being socal, the weather's kinda mild. Even when it's "cold" it's only around 50F, so I wear the same thing day or night when I use my bike for commuting.

- Sweat hoody
- Basketball shorts
- flip flops

Helmet you ask? I don't helmet, 'cause I live dangerously (rip me all you want, I don't care).

If I'm going for an extended commute for training, then it's time for cycling shorts. But If I'm taking the direct route (under 2 miles), I wear my work clothes (black work shorts, black short-sleeve work shirt). I keep a pair of walking shoes at work (I use clipless pedals, so the cycling shoes have metal cleats on the bottoms).

If it's cool-to-cold, I'll add some wind pants and a wool sweater from the thrift store, a jacket, an ear warmer headband under the helmet, wool socks and my winter cycling shoes.

If it's cold-to-supercold, I switch from an ear warmer to a balaclava under the helmet and add more layers as needed.

I value visibility for safety in traffic, so I generally choose fluorescent neon-lime for the jacket, or throw on a neon-lime reflective vest (they start at $5 at Harbor Freight Tools), and naturally I use a headlight and taillight too.

I bike commute to work so I'm usually half dressed...

work pants (khakis) rolled up, work shoes instead of cycling shoes, riding shirt (nike drifit type shirt)

just bought a pannier + new backpack for commuting 🙂
