CPU: None really. AMD in practice. But Intel is currently pretty uninteresting. P4C is still almost nice though. Right now I do not see any good reasons to buy anything other than A-64, for a GP PC. And A-XP for fantastic value and cheap boxes. But that's not bias. Just rationale. I'm hoping for a terrific comeback from Intel in a couple of years.

Memory: None. Cheap thankyou. I don't put too much faith in Crucial & Corsair superiority. I've had excellent results with TwinMOS, Kingston and Mushkin value ranges, but I'd happily buy 'generic'. Some memory don't work right with every MB, so what? Change it, try another stick. I try to buy faster than I will run at though.

Mainboard: Again none. I tend to experiment with 'value'-range mainboards recently. I'm comfortable with single channel, VIA and SIS (I'm comfy with 'em. It's no bias! I go nForce or Intel if I can). $50 is about right for an A-XP MB, IMO. Never integrated video! I avoid those feature rich MBs, that win reviews and laudels and have lots of features I don't intend to use.
Maybe I like MSI and EPoX a little bit better than others, but it's no hard bias. I consider ASUS number one, and for a really cheap box, (Duron) I wouldn't hesitate to try even PCchips (haven't, so far).

Hard Drive: Connor and Quantum ;) - Well seriously, (sigh) currently Seagate, Samsung, WD. But I have a lot of IBMs too. The later have worked well sofar. Had tons of problems with early IBM deskstars.

Optical drives: Samsung, LG.

Sound: Creative mainstream board (or possibly on board).

Video: nVidia in practice, I suppose. But not really, I'm an ATI fan as well. But nothing else. So ok then, nVidia and ATI.

PSU: Finally an easy one. Fortron. Probably some insecurity. I don't know much about PS. I use only FSP.

Case: Steel midi tower. With screws everywhere thankyou. Horisontal mounting for PSU above MB. Cheap.

Cooler: Zalman and Arctic Cooling.

Keyboard: I like 'miniature' keyboards. Otherwise I think Key Tronic is quite OK. I liked the old ones better, but ergoforce is ok. Not a fan of cordless.

Mouse: A4. As high res. as available, on max accs. Never cordless, too heavy.

Game devices: MS Sidewinder Force feedback for everything.

Monitor: Hansol, CTX, Samsung.

Printers: Canon.

OS:
Right now - MS Windows XP pro. I like it a lot, monopoly or not. Haven't liked anything as much since the early Win95, and Amiga OS before that.

CPU AMD all the way, i have two intel rigs and both have chipset troubles, AMD is cheaper and suits my needs better too. If i made a media PC or needed another rig for encoding divx and all, i'd go with a P4.

Mobo I go for Giga-byte, and anything really, i hate Asus, again, ive had trouble with their boards.

Memory Samsung is my fav., i use kingston hyper X for overclocking, and i'll use any generic brand when i'm not OC'ing

Cases/PSU Any case really, i have a $35 codogen (nice case too!). As for PSU's i stay away from the generics, i'll use enermax, antec, foxconn, sparkle, and lots of others.

Monitor I really don't care, i usually buy viewsonic and samsung monitors since their cheap

Graphics card Whatever suits my needs, i lean more toward ATI nowadays.

TV Tuner AVOID ALL ATI TUNERS LIKE THE PLAGUE I buy happauge and leadtek

Sound Card AVOID SOUNDBLASTER AT ALL COST I'll buy anything else.

Coolers + Fans Speeze, generic, coolsermaster, Zalman for the nice rigs.

Mouse/KB Logitech MX's and keyboards

Hardrives Western Digital only! (i have 7WD drives, none squeal, my oldest, 2.5years hasn't died.)

CPU: AMD (actualy whatever has the best price / performace when OC'd)

CPU Cooler: Thermalright

Motherboard: ABIT, ePox, Asus, I've owned more Asus boards than anything else but I've had good luck w/ all 3 brands

Video Card: Nvidia, but I'm currently using a 9800Pro, I still prefer Nvidia's drivers though.

Hard Drive: Western Digital or IBM/HCT (Not the 60 or 75GXP's though got burned on those...)
Case: Antec, Cooler Master

PSU: Antec, Enermax

Case Fans: Sunnon (most reliable fans period have yet to have one fail and have 2 that are 7+ years old) Antec is ok too not sure who makes their fans though.

Memory: Corsair, Crucial, Buffalo, had good luck w/ all these brands

Mouse: Logitech MX series, best mice ever made period

Keyboard: Microsoft Orginal Natural keyboard only... I hate the new F-lock crap, I have 4 of these stockpiled

Speakers: Altec Lansing or HT equipment

Optical Drive: Lite-ON, Plextor, Samsung, I've had good luck w/ all these brands, Plex seems best quality, Lite-ON for price/performance and Samsung for quality w/out Plex price

Sound Cards: I hate creatives drivers so much it's not funny, I'd say Turtle Beach or Nforce Soundstorm

Thats all I can think of off the top of my head.

Ok, I'm going to make a comment, please don't take it personally, becuase I don't mean it that way, honest.

Why, why , why, do people call them midi towers? Surely, not everyone that purchases them uses them for music synthesizers??

I mean, I've also actually seen that printed on case boxes too... wtf?

The only thing that I can figure, is that someone, somewhere, sometime, caused the term "mini tower" (the proper and correct term), to become SNKglicised into "midi tower", probably because of a long-distance phone conversation between two people, one of which was not a native english speaker.

I mean, I guess I could understand, if said tower cases actually came with a front-mounted MIDI port or something.. but really. WTF???

(full-tower, mid-tower, mini-tower. Is it really that hard to keep track of, for all you far-eastern finger-chopper steel PC case makers? *disgust*)

I've often wondered that too. And I think you're right. Midi followed mini.
