What's your blood type?

I have B+ blood, which is fairly rare (only about 10% of the population in the US has this blood type). The Red Cross found out that I have this type of blood, and they've been RELENTLESS in trying to get me to donate 1000x a year. I'm getting a call per day on my home phone, cell phone, emailed, texted...I'm waiting for them to show up on my Facebook or DT me on Twitter. Freakin' vampires!

Anyway, I donate twice a year or so. What's your blood type? I'm going to compile a list so I can get the Red Cross off my back :D

I had no idea what my blood type is, so I just called my mom and asked her. She says I'm O+. Is that good?

It's always good to know your blood type in case of an emergency. With O+, you're the most common and therefore least likely to face a shortage during a surgery.

O-

I typically donate 2-3 times a year but I get calls from the local blood banks every 60 days or so as soon as I'm able to donate again.

I've never donated blood before...what's involved? do you get a tax write-off or anything?

No, but you get free cookies and fruit juice :) Sometimes you get cool stuff too. I got a free ticket to Cedar Point the last time I went.

Then there's that "I'm helping someone" thing too.

Can't remember my HLA protein name though

I donate platelets quite regularly. It used to be every 2 weeks like clockwork, but now it is less frequent due to work.

O+, I usually donate 4-5 times a year. I always donate if I'm eligible and healthy and there's a drive near me.

Lucky, they hound me all the time when I'm not eligible. Part of the problem is that I donate to three banks - Red Cross, BCNJ, and BCNY, so when I donate to one, the other two have no idea that I'm kicked for six weeks.

O-, but with only Anti-A plasma. If I accept more than a pint of "regular" O- my body will reject it.
