you wouldn't...j/k

it's hard to find, very limited quantities. i've only had it once. it's started getting wider distro. but is still be hard to get.
it is actually not as expensive as the blue label. it's even less than gold but more than black.

I really really really like Makers Mark. Thus far, it's my favorite bourbon.

Wild Turkey 101 is quite good.
I have a bottle of Eagle Rare 10 Year at home, Haven't tried it yet ... but I've heard it's quite good

Also, I like Jim Beam a LOT more then Jack Daniels (even though Jack isn't a bourbon, so it doesn't belong in this thread.)

There is a new kid on the block: Buffalo Trace. It comes from what used to be known as The Distillery. I don't think it is sold much beyond the state of Kentucky but you might find a distributor from their website.

For more fun...

A bourbon is a whiskey
A whiskey is not a bourbon

Bourbon must be

1) 51% corn mash
2) Aged at least two years in brand new charred white oak barrels
3) barreled at greater than 160 proof
4) bottled at no less than 80 proof

That's from memory, I'm sure I goofed a number here or there.

Sorry.

Jack is sour mash tennesse whiskey.

Didn't mean to make it like it was a bourbon.

Not like I worked for them for 7 years or anything.

-edit- oh and another thing. According to many master tasters I've spoken with aging longer does not equal better flavor. The reason why they age scotch for so long is to get the dang peat taste out of it (wood is a filter).

No. Peat tastes like ass. They're trying to leave the smoother flavors and take out the "peat" taste.

Do talk to a master distiller about aging bourbon. In fact aging it longer does more harm than good. Its mainly marketing.

I think theres a missunderstanding here. you just posted that "The reason why they age scotch for so long is to get the dang peat taste out of it (wood is a filter)."

peat = bad

age longer= less peat taste

less peat taste = better taste

Am I missing somthing here?

I could just be missunderstanding you, or you, or myself could be wrong.
