And you say you need the HDD plugged in for it to even boot to bios, get beeps whatever...to show a sign of life?

You'll be OK without the HDD. For it to POST, you need video card, memory, and CPU/heatsink, and both power cables (square 4-pin and the main one).

Well, thats exactly what i have in mech. The only thing i could be doing wrong is trying to trip the wrong power switch. lol. surely hope not, right in the corner of the board, titled PWSW right? A bunch of pins with LED, HDD, PWSW etc titled under it...

Sounds like it might be a dead board. You're testing on a non conductive surface (like wood or paper) now, right?

Right so, im testing it on my wood kitchen table right now...

My friend just informed me that he ordered a new computer for himself with a K8V in it, hoping he will let me test my parts in his before i go ahead and start RMA'ing assuming we cant figure anything out...

As for triggering the pwr switch, just poke the screwdriver where the little pwsw 2 pin would go?

Page 2-23 of the manual shows the jumper that's used to clear the CMOS.

Do you happen to have a plain old PC2100 module you could try in place of the fancy stuff? By the way, did you plug in the video card's auxiliary-power cable?

Yeah, i did do that mech. All I have is my old dell memory [which im on right now] and id have to beat it with a golf club to get the case open

PS. I tried earlier, there is supposed to be a button that pops open the top of the case, needless to say the button is broke and doesnt push in, i see where it leads to, but its impossible to manually do it without breaking something down there

It sound based on whats been said like you have a bad motherboard, But these are some more steps you could try to get it working

When testing stuff like this you should hook up a minimal amount of stuff. I'd suggest just hooking up the CPU, HS/F, 1 stick of memory (in a different slot than you've tried before), the video card and the power supply. Make sure you have the P4 12V conector pluged in if you board supports it this could cause what you are describing. Your motherboard may be grounded, ensure you place it on a non conductive surface (ie your woden table or better yet the anti static bag your MB came in) do not connect any drives to the system before it's posted. Make sure nothing but what I lised it connected and then try and short the power on pins on the motherboard and if you get no video or post then you very likely have a bad motherboard. if possible and if you have another PC, test the memory and video card in that system to ensure they work so you can rule them out as issues.

Yeah, correct.

The problem could be the video card... maybe you should send that to me for some testing. I'll let you use my Radeon 7500 for as long as you like (maybe longer!).

Well a slight update...

My buddy finally got his new system, and got it running great.. so we tested my video card in his system.. it kept saying the power cord wasnt plugged into it.. but yes, it definatly was, unless our common sense, and instructions were incorrect.

Next, we put his card in my system, nothing.

So, we pulled up the processor....2 bent pins and a missing pin.
So i ended up just sending the cpu/video/mobo [just incase..] for rma repair.. we'll see how that goes
