What's wrong with us? Why are we so lawsuit happy?

I quote Waggy from this thread I created yesterday:

In the workplace you need to think before you talk. Saying stuff that can land you and the company in a lawsuit is stupid. With how bad the PC crap is you need to engage brain before engaging the mouth.

What you said was not only rude but could be thought of as sexual harassment. Just be thankful that she was nice enough to talk to you alone and not in front of everyone or go to HR. something like this would have stayed on your record for a long time. They don?t need someone who can?t control themselves and say stupid crap like that and get them in a lawsuit.

I couldn't believe somebody would sue my company or me for such a stupid, trivial thing. I don't condone what I said, but I would go completely mental if this woman I know would go to court over it. Yet, after reading my thread and being scared by all of your "you're lucky she didn't get you fired" replies, I'm sure some company or person has been sued for a similar situation in the past.

This thread also made me wonder why people are just so freaking touchy.

Why are people so willing to sue people over such meaningless mistakes? I can't think of any real reason other than greed or money. It's ironic -- the people who are suing are doing something awful and dastardly, probably moreso than the people being sued. Is anything being done about this? If not, what can be done? 😕

I realize some lawsuits are necessary. But when ulterior motives are used in a lawsuit, I just get hot under the collar. :|

hrm...it's prolly a combination of everyone having to listen to the mindless drivel of everyone else, and the fact that constant suing pays out. Check out panIP if you like. They are a prime example.

Because we've become acustomed to the idea that we should be entitled to that which we do not have to work for because we are victims.

Because no one wants to take responsibility for their own actions, and we all feel the need to have everyone else drug down with us.

If by us you mean you, then please ask that to a psychiatrist. I'm not lawsuit happy one bit. Been sued 3 times, all 3 times I've won.

It's because we are taught from young on that you should always put yourself ahead of everyone else and that being PC is very important. We are also shielded from the world by our elementary schools.

No one takes responsibility. Greed. Everybody is the victim these days. Everyone feels they are owed something. Etc... It fvcking sucks.
