What's wrong with "topping off" your gas?

What does topping off really mean anyway? Do they mean not to pull up and fill it if it's already near the top? Or do they mean not to keep pumping when it's auto-stopped ? Gotta get those round dollar values, ya know? :D

If you lived in Oregon you would understand.

I hate when they top-off at the full-service gasoline station!

All you ignorant MoFo's need to learn that when you top off the gasoline to your car, some of the gas can be pumped back into the pump. So effectively you are losing money. Also, they don't like it because you can also spill gasoline if it overflows. So if you are going to top off, just top off like 3-4 cents to give you even change.

Get it? Got it? Good.

ignorant MoFo,

a) how the hell is the gas from my car going to end up back in the tank, where there is a 4300% chance of there being one or more check valves, and:

b) what about my gas station that lets you use a 'club card' that takes 2 cents/litre off the price and will bring it to some whacko amount anyway?

stfu :)

topping off increases the probability of gas spilling onto the ground. Gas spilling onto the ground increases the probability of blowing up the gas station

What if it's natural gas?
