I don't know exactly what you are refering to, but an upside down flag is a sign of distress... so it wouldn't be out of line if they were flying it upside down right after 9/11.

Anyway, the 'not touching the ground' of flags is an ancient relic from battlefields, where the flag was one of the most important things, and once the flag fell the battle was just about over.

Sorry I don't. She should have seen that flag and said No.

She just won a grand slam tournament and has taken about a gazillion photographs with a gazillion different photographers and interviewed with a gazillion different people since then. In all the excitement and whatnot, I really don't blame her for the mistake.
