In an attempt to better the pictures, they have disgraced the flag.

Serena is sitting on the flags. Sadly, no respect for flags whatsoever.

The flag is a symbol representing our country, not a damn rag where

a tennis player could sit on just so she don't get her ass dirty.

Retards.

Nothing, if it is legal to burn it then sitting on it when you have just won for your country should not matter either.

Nope that does not get my knickers in a twister. But it was a stupid thing to do considering how much value some give symbols.

Remeinds me of that SNL sketch with Alec Baldwin where he gets hit with a tomato or something and uses the flag to towel it off, then someone hands him a baby and he wipes his ass with it.

Serena won her 4th consecutive major... That is pretty kick ass if you ask me.

As far as her sitting on the flag, blame the photographer who framed the shot.

EDIT: besides, the photographer isn't american, nor are they in america... This is not the flagrant display of disrepect that some are making it out to be.

OH no, they touched the ground!

And? What about people wearing the flags as clothing? Lingerie, wrestler's spandex, naked women wrapped up in them.....etc...

So what? She is an American..... you should be proud of your country's elite people.

People giving value to symbols. Once a symbol becomes god-like, as the flag has become to some people, then it is no longer good.

RAGGED OLD FLAG

by Johnny Cash

I walked through a county courthouse square,
On a park bench an old man was sitting there.
I said, "Your old courthouse is kinda run down."
He said, "Naw, it'll do for our little town."
I said, "Your flagpole has leaned a little bit,
And that's a Ragged Old Flag you got hanging on it.

He said, "Have a seat", and I sat down.
"Is this the first time you've been to our little town?"
I said, "I think it is." He said, "I don't like to brag,
But we're kinda proud of that Ragged Old Flag."

"You see, we got a little hole in that flag there
When Washington took it across the Delaware.
And it got powder-burned the night Francis Scott Key
Sat watching it writing _Oh Say Can You See_.
And it got a bad rip in New Orleans
With Packingham and Jackson tuggin' at its seams."

"And it almost fell at the Alamo
Beside the Texas flag, but she waved on through.
She got cut with a sword at Chancellorsville
And she got cut again at Shiloh Hill.
There was Robert E. Lee, Beauregard, and Bragg,
And the south wind blew hard on that Ragged Old Flag."

"On Flanders Field in World War I
She got a big hole from a Bertha gun.
She turned blood red in World War II
She hung limp and low by the time it was through.
She was in Korea and Vietnam.
She went where she was sent by her Uncle Sam."

"She waved from our ships upon the briny foam,
And now they've about quit waving her back here at home.
In her own good land she's been abused --
She's been burned, dishonored, denied and refused."

"And the government for which she stands
Is scandalized throughout the land.
And she's getting threadbare and wearing thin,
But she's in good shape for the shape she's in.
'Cause she's been through the fire before
And I believe she can take a whole lot more."

"So we raise her up every morning,
Take her down every night.
We don't let her touch the ground
And we fold her up right.
On second thought I DO like to brag,
'Cause I'm mighty proud of that Ragged Old Flag."

Set aside your trying to be popular and cynical. Accept the fact that the flag is a symbol, a symbol of ideals and ideas.

The flag is a symbol of freedom and strength to many Americans. Apparently not all, but to many. Allowing the flag to hit the ground is disrespecting the flag.

I realize that it's popular to be against anything that might be considered sacred, but let's try to be a little more respectful to the flag, and those that hold it dear.

Yea it just a matter of respect where respect wouldent be hard to pay....

I wouldent let my Eagle feather touch the ground or be sit on, so I can understand how this could upset people...

Sorry I don't. She should have seen that flag and said No.
