If you can tell me whats wrong with this picture then I give you a :cookie: .

Also if anyone has any suggestions, that would be good also (like fix it myself or RMA it).

I don't want a cookie. Breakfast is what I need "D

Send them a pic and see if they will cross ship, paying for your shipping cost also.

Who'd you get that from? That was done before it was boxed for shipping.

You could straighten them with pointed pliers, but I would just RMA it cos they'll never be perfect (especially if any break off). But I'm weird like that, maybe you're not?

Can I have that cookie now?

Got it from Newegg. In fact i got 2, first one was fine and second was well, just look at pic.

You should have seen the box it came in. There was a tear on the side going from one end to the other.

EDIT: Oh, forgot :cookie: for you.

EDIT: Also, the box came open (a little). There was a tear in the zalman box as well as a tear in the UPS box it came in.

Newegg is good about RMAs. They do record how many you do, so if it gets excessive on your part they
will say something. RMA it, I would. The fins won't break if strightened but you won't get them perfect.

I really don't want to go through the whole RMA process. Do you think it will perform the way it should if I just "bent" some of the pins back?

Also, the RAM sinks that come with it, can they be removed after instilation?

Well I havn't RMAed anything else before.

Look at my previous post. I don't really want to RMA, will performance be the same if I just "bent" them back.

And can you remove the ram sinks after instilation, and how do they perform?

I did read your original post. Fix or RMA it, iirc :D
Maybe I should start quoting the OP before I type an answer. MMmm.

Fix it then.

Wipe the cards memory with alcohol then stick on the sinks. Zalman has a flash at their site
for instalation. I removed the thermal tape, lapped the RAM sinks, then bonded them on
with thermal epoxy :D No turning back when that is done.

Yes, when the little sinks are instaled with the provided thermal tape they are easily removed later.

Another question, How do I remove the Black Memory cooler on my evga 7800GT? It's not attached with screws, but these plastic black things that I don't think you can screw out.

on the underside of the card, you'll see where the pins are sticking out. Usually they're shaped like an arrow, just squeeze the sides together and push through. Sometimes you need to force them a bit. Have your hand on the other side cause they can pop out with some force and end up across the room.

You should probably RMA that bent one though. It'll work the same but man, that's ugly.

IDK because I have never worked that card.

I did go to Newegg and look at pics but the retension devices seem differant than what I've
worked with in the past.

Sorry......Someone will come along today that knows.

oooooooooh interesting.

ignore my last statement. I'm still stuck in the 6800's.

EDIT:

Looking at the picture, I'm going to assume that you remove the plate on the top of the stock heatsink and the retention system should be more obvious. It's probably something similar to the old "arrow pins" but they're on the other side.

I'm sure the 900 people on this forum that have replaced their 7800GT heatsinks can help you out.

I just got it off and it is the arrow thing you said in your earlier post. I am now ready to begin the installation of the new VF-700 HS!! :)

not exactly never happened, but close enough for government work. I don't think I would have RMA'd it either. That is more trouble that it is worth on something like.

I'm installing mine on a 6800 soon. Haven't yet opened the package nor checked for my own bent fins! Got my Opty 165 OC'd as high as 2.7G stable before I dialed it back to 2.4.

I just received this cooler from Newegg today. My package had a tear in it too  but, luckily there was no damage to the cooler itself. There wasn't anything wrong with the UPS box, though o_O.

I already installed it on my 6800GT in place of the Arctic Cooling NV5 i've been using since last January. My temps dropped 5 degrees C and it's nearly silent (this is on the 5V fan setting.)
