IIRC, the French spell it "Irak." In fact, the pre-Gulf War air defense system in Iraq was know as "Kari" which is "Irak" spelled backwards.

I agree with LordMaul on all counts. The reason we poke fun is because they make them selves incredibly visible so there is extra humor in their mistakes.

Too bad the point of his sign is pretty much being ignored. Everyone that is looking at it is laughing or instead of defending his point, defending is grammer. Yup, dude is a genius of epic proportions.

That protest must have been held on the campus of USC!

Hey, I resemble that remark!!!

<<-- USC graduet

😉

Am I stupid, or does that make no sense? Resemble? I thought it should be resent...
It's a play on words. It's called humor. You must be a young'n as that has been around forever.

Irak used in Montreal newspapers

2) USA "are"?
United State->s<- of America.
We often refer to the US in the plural here in Canada (eg. the 'States are going going to war, no question about it)

"USA" is, IIRC, a sort of collective noun, IE: flock/herd/gaggle, etc. Would you say "That flock are about to fly away!"?

I'm not too sure about the US being a collective noun, but you may be right. I think both ways may be acceptable, but again, I'm not sure

It's obviously photoshopped

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree. The letters are just too perfect and too colorful to be real. Not that it matters to most people, since it gives people another reason to start a flamewar over the war protests

Doesn't matter if it's real or not... The truth of the matter is that the majority of people who oppose what the U.S. is trying to do are blind to our true reasons for starting war with Iraq. It has nothing to do with weapons of mass destruction. It has to do with a Leader who has constantly attacked his own people and has proven to be a wildcard. The threat isn't the weapons because Iraq could obtain just about anything they want overnight if they really tried. The threat is if they decide they have reason to attack someone and this holds true ESPECIALLY if they get backing from another country of substantial size.

Yes TIME Magazine loves to photoshop their pics and change content before putting them into print...

Both ways seem fine to me. It depends on if you view the USA as a single entity, or as a group of individual entities (ie "they" vs. "it")

USA may be a collective noun in English but not every language.

In Spanich for example, it's Los Estados Unidos .. abbreviated EEUU (Los the equivalent of a plural The, kind of like "those" to "that , but not exactly since there no English plural for The.. )

Iraq is also spelled Irak in Spanish.

Obiously, the person holding the sign isn't a native English speaker..
