What's wrong with my power supply (Aspire X-Qpack)

I've owned an Aspire X-Qpack for a couple months and it's been stable and trouble-free.

I put the case (in it's original padding and box) in my trunk for an over 500 mile drive.

Unpacked it this morning, booted up, and now note that the whole system will reboot (kinda like hitting the reset button) if I tap lightly on the power supply case or parts of the chassis (noted it first when I put a book down on the table where the computer is located and had the whole system reboot).

Do you think vibration from the drive has loosened or cracked a solder joint somewhere in the power supply? If so, where would I look for likely culprits?

Sounds like a short. Perhaps a screw or other component has come loose and is wedged between the motherboard and case?

If you can't find anything rattling around, try taking the system apart and running it outside the case, with the motherboard sitting on a nonconductive surface. If it works fine like that, the case is shorting against the MB somewhere.

The Aspire X-Qpack has a motherboard tray, so I pulled it out to check just that.

I also unscrewed the psu and turned it over to see if anything was loose (nothing that I can tell).

Is what I am describing consistent with a short anywhere in the system? (it's odd, though, that I can tap on some sides of the case without any problem, but gently tapping onto of the psu cause quickly reboots the system).

Search about this case and the PSU and you will see that others have had this problem also. Apparently it is attributed to the PSU itself.

Can you tell me what terms I need to search for?

The problem just started. Do the other threads say it is some loose connection?

I've been looking at buying an X-QPack and from what I've read around the web, this is a common problem with this case. From what I can tell without having a unit in my hands to examine, the problem seems to be caused by the unused pins on the back of the power switch shorting out against the frame.

See this thread here at AnandTech and this thread over at HardOCP.

Hope this helps.
