My DVD rom drive is behaving weird, I think. When I was watching Gladiator, at about Chapter 13 (halfway into the movie) I got a lot of pauses as if something could not keep up with the playing of the movie.

I have a Celeron II 633mhz, an abit BH-6 motherboard - 256K of RAM and a Sony DVD Rom drive (I don't remember the model number - but it came with the Real Holywood II MPEG decoder card - I also have a voodoo2 2000 AGP video card and a Western Digital Caviar HD - no super fast thing. I do not think it is the hard drive slowing down but just the DVD that does not seem to keep up - for some reason I thought the DVD-Rom drive (purchased around 2/98 was a 5X speed. I have not watched very many movies with it but it seems that Matrix did not have that problem. Any advice would be appreciated. thank you.

If you do not have any problems, but those chapters it might be that the disc is dirty (fingers prints, peanut butter and jelly, etc. :)) Clean it and may be try it with another dvd player, may be a house player for a change, it might also be that the disc is defective, good luck.

It could be that your DVD-ROM drive isn't liking the layer switch on the DVD. Or it could be that the DVD is defective. Maybe you should try playing another copy of Gladiator in your drive.
