What's wrong with my DVD player?

I have a Pioneer DV-343 DVD player... it is capable of playing both DVDs and VCDs... but now it won't play VCDs anymore... If I put in a VCD disc, it will say 'Loading' for a while, then spit the disc right back out (the tray opens automatically)... it still plays DVD perfectly fine though... What's wrong with it?

BTW, the VCDs are original discs, not copied so they are not CDRs...

Hard to say for sure. I know that it takes a different strength of laser to read a DVD as opposed to a CD. It could be that one of your POTs inside of the unit is out of whack.

i had a problem w/ my dvd-rom (lite-on) and I opened it up to adjust the POT, but couldn't find it...

I think it only has a 1-yr warranty... if that's the case, then the warranty expired already... do u guys think it would help if I try cleaning the lens?

It might help but I wouldn't count on it. If you had a dirty lens you would notice it when reading DVDs as well since the laser uses less power when reading a DVD than a VCD if I remember correctly.
