What's wrong with my dog? She's in heat, but it's swollen so much it's dangling!

Also, I'm pretty sure it's "spaying" not "spading". correct me if I'm wrong.

Oh definately Spaying yeah...Spading sounds more like hitting your dog with a spade.

I think he was talking about satisfying his bitch with a spade.

No offense CZ but this is a stupid ass post. Obviously something is wrong with your dog, so you're left with 2 choices. take it to the vet and FIND A WAY to pay for whatever your dog needs, or ask the masses on AT to play vet for you, and since you are NOT a vet, whatever the conclusion here was, i bet you'd STILL have to get professional help for your dog.

I hope for the sake of your dog you get it to the vet. :(
Before Google, I thought it might be normal for some dogs to have this (It looks like it's grown to some sort of "receptive position"), and I still wasn't SURE that it wasn't normal so I thought I'd post here frist. The masses would know. She vomited again this morning.

I've had her for over 6 months and six months ago my mother didn't require my support. I would have been perfectly capable of taking her to the vet. Hell, I already did and I bought Advantix (Expensive). I didn't think anything was seriously wrong until yesterday and I'm certainly not a bad dog owner. Hell, it was too late when I posted that and I'm almost on my way to the vet later today. No reason to chastize a guy who's leaving ASAP even though he can't afford it. The only reason I mentioned what I could afford was so that I would get someone who knows something to answer instead of sending me to the vet without a bit of information. I wanted to know how serious it was first instead of being told to go pay first.

My mother is SERIOUSLY sick and hasn't even gotten her treatment yet because her workman's compensation program is fighting it... (Highly resistant form of staff gotten from CNA job at a nursing home, her fingers and toes look like they're rotting off).

man... sorry to hear about your mother.

Maybe you should give your dog away? Other people who are more financially stable could provide it with the proper care it needs.

Actually, try calling the local vets and describe the problem to them, and ask them if it looks like it requires medical attention, and if so how much do they think it'll cost. All my vets experience have been great.

Well, I took her in and got charged $50. Would have been more but I said she was a stray that had been eating my dog's food and they billed me differently for a "stray." I tried to spread paper but I ended up getting very much dog blood all in the car seat.

Basically, they told me that it shouldn't be anywhere near that inflamed and it usuaully doesn't happen until a dog has gone through multiple heat cycles (gets bigger and bigger each time). This is her first (She's still sort of a pup). But there is no sign of infection and it will get bigger because she has another week or two to go through this.

What seemed strange was that he took a swabbing, stepped through a door and then started "announcing" that the slide looked fine in the microscope, no sign of infection, then that he was checking for something else on the second slide, etc etc. I don't know why, but it sounded totally fake (It DID have an additional charge).

I blame you because you asked ;)

PIC1 - Shows how much farther protruded she is than normal. Does NOT show how far protruded downward she really is.
PIC2 - Shows some of the downward protrusion. Before the heat cycle, couldn't make out any sort of openeing or lump beneath the hair.
PIC3 - Just wanted a cute pic of my puppy sleeping, but the swollen thing just takes away from the image.

If you can't afford to have her spayed, talk to the local ASPCA. In most areas, they have agreements with local vets that will allow you to have it done at cost, which is usually only like 10-20 dollars.

Having a female dog is definately better when she is spayed.

Oh yeah, from the googled description you gave, it says it is caused after giving birth, which from what you have said, I don't think your puppy is a mommy.

Is she licking at it? I mean, if it hurt, or if it was a problem to her, then she'd be licking at it.

Give your local vet a call and ask them if it's normal. Don't be afraid to tell the vet that you don't have money and can't take her in. A true vet may be able to work something out with you... even if it means you gotta clean some kennels for them or something :-\

Actually, that's what the vet said (I have already been, several posts above) but the Google quote explicitly states "Pyometria can occur after or during a heat cycle" so I kinda wish I had that printed out with me. I mean, she hasn't had any "instruments" used on her but I'm sure that's not the only way for it to get infected.

Yes, she is licking often but it seems to be more because of the constant discharge than pain.

Thnx for the suggestion!
