What's wrong with my dog? She's in heat, but it's swollen so much it's dangling!

She's in heat. She isn't spayed because I keep her inside so there is no problem with a neighborhood dog knocking her up. The problem is, she's so swollen / inflamed "down there" that it protrudes and dangles like nothing I've seen before. I saw plenty of neighborhood dogs mate while growing up and never saw anything like it.
Pyometria is a uterine infection that turns deadly if left untreated and can still be fatal with proper medical intervention. This infection can of course only occur in unsprayed females since it involves the inside of the uterus itself. Pyometria can occur after or during a heat cycle, as a result of a retained puppy or placenta after having given birth or from the use of non-sterile whelping instruments. The uterus literally fills with pus and in some cases actually ruptures. The symptoms may include a foul smelling, thick and/or bloody vaginal discharge, and distinct lack of appetite, lethargy, depression, vomiting, and diarrhea as well as an elevated temperature. The best course of action in cases of pyometria is to immediately spay the dog and place on antibiotics.

Yeast infections or vaginitis may not be noticeable except by excessive licking of the genital area by the female or an unexpected display of interest on the part of a male dog. Vaginitis can cause a discharge that can stain the vulva area as well as signs of painful urination. The most common medical treatment involves the administration of antibiotics over a course of several days.
Found this on Google. Google Image Search turned up nothing relating to this. She does have discharges, but I was told that this was how other dogs picked up the scent. She did throw up dry dog food the other day.

I can't afford the vet.

EDIT: PICS BELOW YOU PERVERTS! ;)

My vet only charged 70 bucks to have our dogs/cats spayed - although I've seen MUCH cheaper. Give it a try ;)

If you care about your dog, suck up the $60 it will cost and take her to the vet. Charge it, whatever, just take care of her. Good luck to you and your dog.

If you can't afford to take care of your pet then why do you have it? Take the dog to the vet.

Agreed, and considering that he has a ton of things on his trade list, $60 should be quite easy to find if the dog is important.

I've been living off of credit for the last few months taking care of legal bills for my mother while she's out of a job. I didn't have but a couple thousand in credit and both mine and my brother's credit is now maxed and the bank account dipped to negative 200 last week despite overdraft protection. It's not like I forsaw this or something and I certainly wouldn't have ran out and spent MORE MONEY when it was obvious that I wouldn't have what I needed :( As for spaying, I normally would never do that to a dog that does not need it (ie, indoor / fenced or lap dog). I don't think they'll give me any credit.

surely one of your friends has a horny male dog.
Oh, and my friend keeps bringing his chihuahua over to watch it SUFFER. :(

Need pics.

Also, I'm pretty sure it's "spaying" not "spading". correct me if I'm wrong.

A song by Gillette comes to mind...

Sell something and take her to the vet. People should not own animals if they can't afford to provide for them.

No offense CZ but this is a stupid ass post. Obviously something is wrong with your dog, so you're left with 2 choices. take it to the vet and FIND A WAY to pay for whatever your dog needs, or ask the masses on AT to play vet for you, and since you are NOT a vet, whatever the conclusion here was, i bet you'd STILL have to get professional help for your dog.

I hope for the sake of your dog you get it to the vet. :(

That is WAAAYYY more information than I need to know about your dog.

Get her spayed. Nothing worse than an animal in heat. They are really annoying.
