How old are you? Also what does the letter say? Some credit card companies require you to have an income.

One would think that'd matter, but I got my first CC offer over the phone when I was 14. They didn't stop pushing until I brought my age up.

By law you are guaranteed one of these two options:
1) The CC rejection letter details the specific reasons your credit application was rejected, or
2) The CC rejection letter details how to contact them to obtain the specific reasons your credit application was rejected.

By law, the reasons cannot be vague. "Didn't have a high enough credit score" is a vague answer and thus would be an illegal answer. An example of a legal answer would be "income did not match our requirements".

Thus, why not find out the truth rather than have Anandtech guess at the 500 billion possible reasons (especially since most of us don't know all the relavant details about your life)? Note: you only have 60 days after the rejection to contact them if they picked option #2. So get on it now.

when I was younger, one of the BS excuse they use to reject me was age. something like "because of high non-repayment rate of people in your age group, we can't give you a CC right now" something like that.

Where are you checking your credit?

http://www.myfico.com is the only place to get your real FICO scores.

You may have some late payments, collections, public records or, maybe you're just young and don't have a long enough history of credit.

Try starting with a Target Guest card.

Also, if you're applying to a bunch of places that's a HUGE red flag. Stop applying and wait about 6 months and then try a couple.

My sister got her first credit card from Amazon with little/no credit (only thing on her report was that she was an authorized user of our parent's Discover card).

She makes great money and was denied by both Discover and BP Visa

Depends on how established your credit record is. If you're 18 or under, haven't paid any bills in your name, and aren't putting your parents' names down next to yours when applying, you'll probably still get rejected. A low-limit CC helps, but isn't really much.

Everytime you apply for a credit card, that goes against your record even though it's not on your credit report. When I used to file credit applications for the Target Visa, I was instructed to automatically fail anyone who had applied for more than 1 credit card in the past 6 months reguardless of their credit.

You should receive two decline letters via snail mail.

Look at those letters, what do they list as the reasons for making their credit decision?
