What's wrong with my ATI HD3850???

I got my HD3850 today, installed it no problem and 2D seems to work fine. But, then tried Crysis and it brought weird glitches in textures, and objects. Tried to install the hotfix, but it gave no difference. Then, tried Gmod (for HL2), and it also shared the same problem. I remember running 3DMark06 without too much errors though and scored some 6.6k...

So, is my card broken/going to be, overheating or just having some weird software error?

CPU, RAM, mobo and PSU is in the Xolair's sig. Neither of those seem to be the problem.

Agreed. And an overheating card is per definition broken. (Unless you have overclocked it).

Power issue? I think my PSU should produce enough power for that card (33amps on the +12V line, that's nearly 400w)... unless the PSU's broken somehow, but then the computer wouldn't work?

What are the gpu 3d temps? RivaTuner does a good job reporting this.

Have you checked here? It would be good to discuss this with someone who actually has one of these gpu's.

There are several online reviews of these gpu's with associated temps. If your temps aren't close, I'd go ahead and get it replaced.

The symptoms definitely indicates a flawed card rather than a power issue, especially if the PSU worked fine before the upgrade.
The card is brand new. Why don't you contact the manufacturer? They will probably suggest you RMA the card.

Agreed, but a new PSU costs money. RMAing the card is free (though annoying). Given that the symptoms point toward a defective card, I would replace the card before the PSU.

well, we'll see, I have a feeling it's the PSU, from th way everything was behaving not just the card.

I belive this is an issue w/ your Motherboard not working correctly w/ PCI-E 2.0 Cards, Try updating your bios, their was a thread about that board having issues w/ an 8800GT in the motherboard section as being incompatible w/ the new pci-e 2.0 cards and Asrock indicating it was a known issue.

^ Would be a bit strange if it showed that incompatibility as this kind of weird artifacts in-game... who knows, it's the world of computers, but I'll still RMA the card. :)

Damn, it seems that even the Sapphire card shares a similar problem. Haven't tried many games yet, but tried 3DMark06 and here's the result:
http://i143.photobucket.com/al...airs_bucket/3dmark.jpg

I also get this kind of artifacts in 2D usage, in some sites:
http://i143.photobucket.com/al...s_bucket/artifacts.jpg

It's weird, I tried visiting those sites which give the probs and they don't seem to give any artifacts, when drivers ARE NOT installed, but instantly when I install Catalyst 7.11 those dots appear everywhere. Could all this be just driver-related, after all? No stretched vertices/polygons yet, but I'll check some games out...

I just tried the demo of Prey (which is an OpenGL game), and it worked just fine except for some strange stuttering here and there. No artifacts, no corrupted textures, or stretched vertices from what I managed to see. It indeed could be true, that these Catalyst 7.11's have an issue of some sort with Direct3D... that seems like an reasonable option now. Should get a hold of other OpenGL games too, just to be sure. :)

Diablo 2: LoD worked fine with DirectDraw (a 2D mode), but with D3D it didn't, similar problems as with Crysis etc. Strange...

Yes! ASRock released a 2.20 bios for this mobo, that says to patch the PCI-E slot supportive for this videocard. Tried it, and every game I've tested including Crysis work without issues! :D
