So, ive finally found a bike that looks great, is newb friendly, handles well, and can also be tracked because it is so well balanced.

but its a: an older bike, only made for 4 years.
b: its japanese.

and damn its a sexy bike.

Honda Hawk GT

now i just need to find one for sale, they have held their value insanely well, but im not worried about that.

That looks just like the SV650, I thought you didn't like the looks of those? Or was that the v-strom?

If it's like the SV650, it should be a good bike. SV650's are going to be easier to find it looks like.

does anyone know of any Hawk GT sites?

a cycletrader.com search reveals.... ZERO in 350 miles of my house.

i know KBB is low, at like $1700, but they are typically fetching about $3k used market.

SV650 will be easier, newer, but i dont like the looks, theres a HawkGT that sits on campus next to the library i walk past, ive begun staring at it, it looks great with a single sided swing arm, and its power is only like 58bhp/48trq so its pretty newb friendly with a constant torque band from what ive read.

There's a HawkGT up on eBay motors right now, $2300 BIN. It's in AZ though.

The SV650 actually looks sportier to me than the HawkGT (the rear fender makes a big difference). This one looks pretty nice:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SV650_W0...4QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

It's 17 years newer, but it'll probably go for ~$4k. The SV650 has a huge aftermarket I've heard. I was going to go with a SV650 next spring as my first bike until I found my CM450 and ended up with that since it was such a good deal.

I commuted on one for three years. It managed my 6' @ 220# quite well.
It was a fantasic ride in the rain, stability plus.
The fuel tank is kind of small and limits long distance rides on back roads.
My insean is 34" and was a tight fit, 28~32" would do well on this small bike.

To be tracked it MUST have a front fork transplant to include a wider wheel.
The stock front wheel is too narrow and limits tire selection.

im 6'3 180, but i have a 34" inseam, most of my height is upper body. which is the main reason i dont fit on the SV650.

if the hawk is sitting outside the library today (im there now) im gunna leave a note on it seeing if he would want to sell it :D

Another thing about the Hawk GT. There is no linkage on the rear shock, it mounts directly
to the frame from the swing arm and as such is very sensitive to adjustment, plus it's
hard as hell to access.

If this is your first street bike and given that your tall, consider a Suzuki GS 500. ;)

ive never seen a GS500, so im not discounting it, but i do have my doubts as to fitting on it, i know a ninja 500 is to small, i do weigh about 200 though i listed myself earlier as 180, im in between there.

I have long arms & legs, the Hawk GT was a very tight fit for me. A 250 mile day on back
roads (twisties) was a real pain. Mine was blue but it did come in red or silver. It was the
only Honda I ever owned.

TheGoodGuy posts here on ATOT. He rides a GS 500. PM him for advice. ;)

well, i joined a mailing list, and i did find a few Hawks for sale, all are asking higher prices, but are willing to negotiate, especially with the coming winter.

i also found that i am located close to the god of the Hawk GT, Hurd performance, who knows the bike like it was his kid.

The Hawk GTs were not popular at all back then. Now there's quite a following which makes it hard to find one for sale and then they charge quite a bit for it.
