What's wrong? Extremely low scores in 3dmark2001!

Hello!
I ran 3dmark2001 and scored 1501!
My rig:
1.6G Northwood overclocked to 2.24G (16*140)
Asus P4B266-C motherboard.
Gladiac Ultra.
Maxtor 7200 RPM 40Gig HD.
256MB DDR SDRAM from Hynix/Hyundia.
I was shocked to say the least!

I guess the first thing I need to do is to check the drivers,
but there must be something very obvious I am missing here.
Thanks!

Im not formiliar with the Gladiac Ultra, So Im asking is it a TnT2 Ultra, If it is thats basicly all it can do but if its a Gforce is your test set to run in hardware T&L or Software T&L, Make sure its in hardware T&L.

Other then that I have no other info.

Me neither.
I don't know what Gladiac Ultra is. I have no idea. Please tell us the full detail name, model and whether it's OC'ed or what.

The Elsa Gladiac Ultra is a Geforce 2 Ultra card. It should do around 6000-6500 with that setup. Drivers, like you said, would be the first thing to check(the det 23.12 drivers work good for me, same board/cpu with a G3). Although it's normaly automatic, check in your BIOS and make sure it's set for 4X AGP.

I'd also update to the latest BIOS for your P4B266 if you haven't already. Version 1005.

Yes, it is GeForce2 Ultra, sorry, I should have been clearer. No, I have not overclocked it. After I installed the Detonator 23.12 drivers, the 3dMark2001 now shows 3531. It is a more than 100% jump but I feel still well below where it ought to be. I can't upgrade the m/b bios because none is available for P4B266-C. Any ideas on how I can improve HD/memory performance and/or BIOS tweaks? I have set the CPU/Memory ration to 1:1 and have set optimization at Turbo1 (PCI/AGP fixed at 33/66).
Thanks again.

not to break the thread... but i was wondering where i can get the 3dmark benchmark.. and again.. sorry for breaking a thread

Not sure if this would help but, when i first ran mines i got lower scores but not like yours, i got 6000 something with a geforce 3 , til i remember i forgot to install the inf files for windows me. After that i got it back to 8000 something.

cyberizer9 - what version of windows are you running? If its 98/ME make sure to install the motherboard's drivers off the CD it came with.

ty for the addy JIFFY

SOLJAHZ what were your settings.. i got 7100

settings 1024x768,32 bit

frame buffer = double

AA = None

texture Format= compressed

z-buffer = 24 bit

d3d pure hardware t&L

You need to make sure you have fsaa and antistropic filtering turned off in display settings. I don't know if that is the case here, but fsaa can easily cut your performance in half.

hey goose i ran it default settings. My fsb is at 147 so it makes it 2.3 something ghz, if that helps and oh my geforce is clocked at 216/486

I installed inf and detonator 23.12 and now my score is 3763. But still is way below, isn't it?

Where do I turn them off? I saw no such options in 3dmark2001 or thru display-> settings ->advanced options. Thanks.

Edit: I now have 512MB DDR SDRAM memory and have installed IntelInf and Intel Accelerator patch. My 3dMark2001 score is now 3763.
But still is nowhere near 6k-7k everyone is talking about!

Here is an update:
Overclocked the 1.6A P4 to 2.133. Everything is at default (Vcode,
cpu/memory bus, optimization set as Turbo1). I think the heatsink was
not seated properly and the high temp WAS choking the CPU. Reseated
the heatsink and added 3 case fans and here I am. 3dmark2001 score is
now 5200, Dhrystone 4088 and Whetstone 1117/2614. I am happy now.
Thank you all for the support.

yea 5200 is right, the ultra is under the 7500 in performance so that sounds right, man did you buy the ultra when it was $550 ??? i always drooled over it but never had the money, too bad I paid $280 shipped for my radeon when it came out, now its half that 🙁

what is your agp aperture set to in the bios? I've found HUGE performance in tweaking it. Try 64 and 128 to see what it likes best.

It is set to 64MB right now, I will try 128MB as you suggest and keep you posted on the results.

I paid $125 for the Gladiac GeForce2 GTS from ELSA (Staples deal, courtesy AnandTech). It started giving me problems within a year. I RMAed it back and got a brand new Gladiac GeForce2 ULTRA in return! I am not complaining! 😛
