What's worth more, Star Wars/Idiana Jones/Willow or Pixar?

Disney bought Star Wars for $4 Billion but paid over $7 Billion for Pixer.

I would have thought Star Wars would be worth much more then Pixer, I wonder if Lucas just gave it away so Star Wars would live on.

Probably Pixar. But really hard to say. Both have an established franchise--well, several for Pixar--that generate massive revenue in merchandise.

Disney will certainly milk it for all it is worth, but I wouldn't be surprised to see some Pixar-produced SW content, in the form of short series. ...or maybe not. Hopefully Disney continue to allow them the relative independence that they enjoy.

Pixar, they actually create new and original content continuously and aren't riding on franchises that are rather old.

Pixar is pretty much a machine, on average they pump out a movie about once a year that is good for nearly $600M

on the flip side, the StarWars prequels and even Indian Jones 4 averaged much higher than that $600M mark, about $800M, the problem is that those films aren't produced with anywhere near the same frequency and consistency, and also doesn't consider the flops such as the most recent film Red Tails or that animated StarWars Clone Wars movie

I'd sale the value is close enough.

It's not Star Wars vs Pixar, it's Lucasfilm for 4B to Pixars 7B. Pixar probably has a higher valuation given that they create new content while Lucasfilm milks existing ones. Sure, Star Wars profited a ton more in ticket sales but that's history... Disney is not paying for what it has already made, it's paying for what it can potentially make going forward.

Lets not forget, they also paid 4B for Marvel which IMO is a better competitor to Pixar than Lucasfilm is for comparison since they have Iron Man 3 and Avengers 2 on the horizon.

Plus they don't get the original Star Wars.. I forgot about that. Fox owns the 1st 1977 Star Wars.

I personally don't give Pixar the credit they may deserve because I have no Idea what movies they produce but I've probably seen a lot of them. Like Shrek or Ice Age I'm just not sure who makes those movies.

I also would never buy pixar merchandise but X wing fighter to hang from the ceiling.. lol.

There is a Clone Wars movie?

I'll have to look that up though the series doesn't interest me anymore.

yup, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clone_Wars_(film)

19% @ RT, 15% amongst top critics, 35% on metacritic

To be honest, the potential for a new StarWars trilogy is through the roof. Phantom Menace broke all kinds of records when it came out, despite how truly terrible it was. Nostalgia alone was enough to keep people generally positive about the prequels until the sugar high expired.

If Disney does a good job and gets a trilogy along the lines of what Nolan did for the Batman franchise, we could very well see some really earth shattering records

granted, it really does depend on how well the do with their first attempt

Fox also owns distribution rights for the 5 other StarWars movies through 2020
