With cash back offerings on many CCs out there, it doesn't make sense to pay in cash

Only if they can prove that they aren't collecting and selling all that data.

As long as I get my cash back, let 'em!

Seriously. I understand why people care about privacy, but there's point where I draw the line and I just don't care anymore. I don't care if some company knows I spent $24.58 at Target last Tuesday.
Would you care more if we found it was for a bottle of KY and a gerbil? I'm on to you mugs!

Target doesn't sell pets. But there's a PetSmart in the same parking lot. :Q

I seriously get weird looks at places when I pay with cash. Some times I get discounts on the cost because they don't have proper change in the cash register to charge me the extra $$ - like just today I paid $21 for pizza & pop for work that was supposed to be $21.50 but they couldn't make change from $25.

Although it does piss me off when people never carry any cash anywhere. I got several friends together to go see a show couple weeks ago, enough for 2 cars driving, and we arrive at the lot and I get a call on my cell from my friend saying "I don't have any cash on me, do they take credit cards to pay for parking?" Sheesh. I was already having a break-down that night, I nearly wanted to strangle him for adding this onto my list of things I have to take care of.

As for credit cards with cash back... screw it. I've had a Discover Card since '99 with cash back from the start. 7 years I've gotten a whopping $34 credit, of which I've only been able to redeem $20 of it so far. I've put thousands upon thousands upon thousands on that card. And now I'm where I only spend average $100-$150 per month, so cash back gains are very minimal - versus the more credit cards I have to maximize bonuses & cash back & what-not, that would just mean I will slip up at some point and have a late payment, nullifying everything I've "earned" in the past 7 years in one slip of the mind.

True, and CC's are at least quicker than debit cards. My rant is mainly about debit/check cards anyway.

Well that sucks. I've gotten over $700 back from Citi in 2 1/2 years, $200+ back from my Costco Amex in 2 years, over $100 back from my Amazon.com Visa, and who knows how much I've saved with the 10% coupons I get from my Target card.

In those commercials, (because presumably each purchase is less than $250 everyone is using the Visa equivalent of PayPass, where all you do is pass your card in front of the reader and go...
Mastercard calls it "Tap N Go?
Just one tap of your MasterCard PayPass card on the PayPass reader at participating locations and you're good to go. It works just like your traditional MasterCard card?but no more swiping or giving your card to cashiers. No fishing for coins or waiting for change. PayPass makes the transaction process simpler and quicker for all?at fast food restaurants, gas stations, convenience stores, and more.

Built-in technology
The MasterCard PayPass card has built-in chip and antenna technology, as well as a standard magnetic stripe. The card and specially equipped PayPass terminals communicate payment card details using very short range radio waves. "

While Visa calls it Visa Contactless
"Benefits
Visa Contactless has many benefits:

Makes checkout faster and easier
No signature required for most purchases under $25.
Visa Contactless provides you with the same security protection you get with the traditional Visa cards, including Zero Liability.¹
Transactions are processed through the same, reliable payment network as magnetic stripe transactions.
Particularly useful for smaller, quick purchases at places like convenience stores or quick"

So, using these cards WOULD be faster than fumbling for cash, and waiting for some math-challenged individual to make change...even when the cash register tells them how much to give you, they still have to figure out how many of those shiny coins it takes...

Actually, my mom's boyfriend says this, yet he takes FOREVER getting his money out.
He pulls out his money clip, finds the apporopriate bills that are sorted, then pays, and waits for change, then sorts/rearranges it then puts it in his clip and puts it away.
With my debit card, I swipe, enter the pin, wait for it to autorize and put it away, which is much faster.
And he still says cash is faster.

Hell, I've gotten back $300 from Citi this year (5% on gas and groceries and 1% on everything else) and almost another $400 from Chase (3% gas and 1% everything else). Now that most restaurants take them (McDonalds, etc), I use it everywhere...even when I have cash! :)

Debit's faster. Only faster if the store in question has the high speed connection to their debit machines. And you can get cash back if you really need the cash...

eh....at the local supermarket I'm done sooo much quicker. It was slow a year or two ago, but now it's quick, as most folks know the machines. I'm swiping and typing at the same time and it goes quick. I'm maybe 20-30 seconds.

What annoys me is the places (like my small town local gas station) that have dialup to clear CC stuff...takes damn near forever to clear stuff (like 1 minute or more)

The cash you get back came out of your pocket. The CC company owns you.
