What's with these commercials saying that money slows you down?

Money doesn't slow anyone down. In fact, credit/debit cards slow everyone down. They have to be swiped, a pin has to be entered (if you have a debit card) and you have to wait for a receipt to print out from the machine and 80% of the time the business wants it to be signed.

Trust me...money is faster in most cases.

Where are you that you have clerks who can give change for a $1.88 bill when you hand them $2? Around here that takes three attempts with a calculator, two clerks arguing, and at least 5 minutes.

I believe CC companies enjoy the % they take from purchases, and encourage consumers to pay with their cards wherever possible.

Not when Soccer Mom Judy is fishing through her 10 lb. purse for change.

Well, I agree with you on your point of view that CC's take longer to deal with than cash, but you missed the whole point of that commercial.

If you'd paid attention you'd have noticed they were just "swiping" the card over a sensor and that was all that needed to be done for that transaction. No paper, no signature. that WOULD be faster than using cash.

stick to making corny jokes and leave the rants to the professionals ;)

Heh...undoubtedly. I just hope nobody buys into credit cards being faster. Lines are almost always quicker when everyone pays with cash.

The business I work at, I was told that we don't accept American Express because they take something like 2-3x the amount Visa and Mastercard do from each sale.

When I'm getting fuel I hate being behind people using a credit card, I usually have exact change and hate waiting for them. Especially it they also decide that they should use the points card as well.

If it's debit at like a grocery store, I disagree. I think debit is much quicker. I can have my card out, swipe it, enter my pin quicker than I could get the cash out, give it to the cashier, then wait for the change and put it in my pocket.

But that isn't how it works. They were cutting out the parts where the clerk has to ask "Oh, is that debit or credit?" and then followed by a "Okay, go ahead and hand me your card and I'll swipe it" followed by maybe another swip, followed by a "Okay, now take this machine and go ahead and enter in your pin number...then it's going to ask if you want cash back, then it's going to process. Okay, great...now I just need you to sign this peice of paper."

When you're getting fuel? You can't swipe it at the pump? I was going to say that fuel pumps were one of the exceptions and about the only place I use my debit card outside of the internet.

I thought it was a mastercard commercial.

Here in NJ where we can't pump our own gas, many gas stations don't have pay at the pump - they have a single CC machine in the booth and they bring the slip to you to sign.

Many stores don't require you to sign anymore, and some allow you to do all the CC stuff before they finish ringing up your items, so in many cases CCs are faster.

They probably could use the CC card at the pump. I don't know why they don't.
I usually use cash for most things, including gas. Unless it's a large cost item, then it's debit card.

they should've had someone writing a check... cause that has to be slowest of all the methods. i can't stand when i get stuck behind someone at the store that pulls out their checkbooks and spends 10 minutes writing a check :disgust:

not really. the commercial where the lunch room is running like a well oiled machine until a guy buying whips out cash and the whole process stops. its saying that credit is more efficient and more popular than cash. if the public sees it enough they will belive it.

just think the diamond engagement/wedding ring was unheard of until the 1930's when debeers launced a huge ad campaign about a diamond is forever. now the US is about the only country were it is now custom to give such worthless gifts.

i guess my point is dont mock the power of clever advertising.

does everyone necessarily need an iPod with them at all times? no. but Apple has a massive ad campaign for it that says people do.

That's because Visa (and MC I believe) have dropped the signing requirements on anything below $25.00. Also, some stores, such as Kroger, have waived the signing requirement on anything below $50.00.

I love plastic...and it's rewards. You'll just have to wait behind me blanco! :D

Seriously. I understand why people care about privacy, but there's point where I draw the line and I just don't care anymore. I don't care if some company knows I spent $24.58 at Target last Tuesday.

Edit: And how can they prove they're not doing something? :D
