What's with the phrase "Let's Roll"

The first time I heard it was on ESPN talking about Florida State

Now I hear it's causing a stink because of some connection to 9/11

Anyone care to enlighten me on what the big deal is?

Before the passengers of Flight 93 attempted to take the plane over, one of the men was heard using that phrase.

Edit: They were trying to trademark it, too, which was kid of silly.

Here is what happened....

Passengers on Flight 93 said "let's roll" before they thwarted the hijackers plans and crashed the plane. Fast forward 11 months.....Bobby Bowden used the term recently stating that his team had a down year last year and made the term "let's roll" an inspirational anthem for this year's football team. For some reason, people are getting on Bowden for using the phrase...

But....it is okay for our president to use the term b4 the Olympics, and singers have incorporated it into their songs, but Bowden has been ripped for it

......our media ran with the story, and made it a bigger deal than it really is....

It was then used by the president in a public address.... the intention, presumably, to honor the dead....

Bobby Bowden got called out cuz when he was explaining the significance of their new motto and how it relates to 9/11, he said (and I quote):

"yeah, its a tribute to THAT GUY who said let's roll on that plane that crashed in pennsylvania"

Like, you think he'd at least remember Todd Beamer's name??? Or the flight number?

EDIT: forgot that when someone asked Bowden if it was appropriate, he snapped, "If anyone has a problem with it, they are unpatriotic. I'm a patriotic person." Nevermind the fact that Wheaton College (who?) had already claimed this as their athletic slogan shortly after 9/11.

The phrase "Let's Roll" was around long before Scott Beamer used it on 09/11/01.

Wouldn't "let's roll" refer to communal consumption of X tabs? Unless it's regional dialect...but 'roll' has always referred to a tab drop.

Wouldn't "let's roll" refer to communal consumption of X tabs? Unless it's regional dialect...but 'roll' has always referred to a tab drop.
