What's with the hot rendered girls on gfx card boxes and on the card?

I mean what, am I supposed to be thinking "if I buy this graphics card, I will be able to render girls with graphics like her"?

I guess they just have a couple of rendering artists on payroll full time for that stuff.

Random story: My first BA graphics card, was an Albatron 6800GT. So I like to keep all the boxes for my computer hardware, I use them to store papers in, helps when moving every other semester. I had left the gfx card box closed, full of financial papers sitting neatly in my dresser next to my dirty laundry basket under my clothes shelf.

So my roomate's buddy comes in to check out our dorm set up, looks around, sees the box, and then decides to ask this really strange question: "Is that your blow-up doll? Albatron 6800GT edition?" He was completely serious.
"Huh? No.....that's the box to my old graphics card."

"Right. Whatever dude."

It's not just gfx cards, it's everything that's geared towards males. Hell, look at fighting games, every woman in those games has large boobs and a lean, press on body. I get so much shit for playing those games because of the chicks in them.

Well, female gamers are nearly the rarest creatures on the planet.

To somebody who has no idea that Albatron is a PC hardware company, or what a 6800GT is, they may have thought it was the

"Jessica Alba-tron" model.

I understand how a sexy female is going to catch your attention in the graphics card isle section.

But I actually prefer videocard boxes with a clear plastic exposing the card itself. How many times have you found yourself looking at the box and quickly turning it around hoping you'll be able to see the cooler on the graphics card on the back of the box? ... only to find out an endless list of specs like True 128-bit HDR. However, I can't recall any videocard being exposed at the front of the box.

You mean you want the manufacturers to think outside the box?

I think it's corny when the manufacturers put some tacky CG image on the card's cooler. Call me crazy, but I think the reference cooler art just looks nicer - it's clean, simple, and neat.

My 2600 has some weird CGI freak on the box. No chick. An image of the card would have been great but still - - - I would have preferred the chick... lol

I'm gonna go a bit old skool on yah, but I remember the Bloody Monster Geforce 4 cards
having a flap that you opened(which had all the cool graphics on it) on the inside of the flap it had clear plastic so you could see the video card itself =)

If you ever had to replace your video card with a wal mart sold video card until your RMA arrived you probably remember the one im talking about, they still sell them to this day =D

I rather look at a hot drawn babe than a half naked guy any day of the week. Also, it seems that the stereotypical PC enthusiast is a glasses wearing freckled person that has no chance with girls, so the companies give them girls.

Yeah, I don't really get it either. Not sure why video cards are packaged this way. Why not treat them like other electronics? My microwave or HDTV didn't come in a box with a scantily clad woman on it... Not even other gaming products, like an Xbox 360 or PS3 come packaged like that, so why video cards?

That being said, Mad Mod Mike still has to be about the worst idea ever...

http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_madmodmike_home.html

...especially, because he "He slips into bedrooms at night...". IMO, that dude needs to keep his ass at the pool hall/dive bar and out of anyone's bedroom.
