Whats with the GIANT dely once i boot windows? Im running win2k on a tbird 900 with 320mb ram....When i hit windows and it shows the desktop background it takes upto 2 min to load the icons and stuff...meanwhile i look at task man and cpu usage is 1 or 0 and harddrive lite aint movin..its just at a halt for atleast a min...whats up with that? could it be doing some network things?

This is an OS related issue and not General Hardware.

i get a delay after everything is loaded up in Win XP because the operating system is doing something with the network. about 10 seconds after everything else is up the network icon appears. when was the last time you reformatted? do you by chance have an antivirus program that is scanning the memory or something?

What's your hardware configuration? That should help us diagnose your problem...

I'm on the other end of the stick with a P3 750Mhz running Win98se. I get the same problem with the icons taking a long time to load. I only have 7 on the desktop... Never thought it might be the cable modem.

You should also run scandisk on your OS partition to make sure you don't have any file system and/or disk errors.

To be sure it is not due to software invisibly loading at startup, look for a little program called "startup control panel".

As croxz says, check all programs that are started automatically after boot.
I am using registry cleaner from AAtools to check the registry.
Could be a virus-scan, a tweak util or even ad/spysoft.
