Why do people sell cd keys on ebay and is this even legal ? I don't understand how they can sell just a cd key? What would be the reason to even do this? I mean why would I need more than one cd key? Thank You. Has anyone ever bought on before? Is it legal ?

if the key has not been used, its like having a second copy of the program. you pay mostly for the license (key) and a little for the software.

I don't know about ebay but I've boughten them from people online, always had good experiences.

I'd say if you want to be safe just buy from someone who will send you the game cds on request.

some have been most haven't. it's a crap shoot. read the feedback on people who sell lots of CD key's.
i think the big advantage is lower price almost $0 shipping cost. it would make sense if say your friend already had the software. but you are pretty much screwed if the key has been used, for Multi anyway.

Yes but how can they sell just the cd key is it really legal with what they are doing? I mean don't you need to buy the game to get a cd key or you can buy a lot of cd keys at one time?

I dunno. I have games that I don't play anymore and I've sold the CD key to a friend on the net for a few bucks and thrown away the game. Dunno if it's legal, don't care.

If the cd keys are not legal can't they collect ip addresses and then sue you? When you play online. Thats why i am wondering how this can be legal?

EULA - you pay for the game, one copy per person. You hit "agree" and if there is a sentence that sez mail a million dollars to Microsoft, they can have your head in jail for that if you can't pay up. CD keys will move from protective password syncs to Internet activation, and from there on, it will be ID ownership in some way shape or form (predictably)

Not unless you have a firewall. However, you can't connect to the Internet for online games/activation without the .exe file exploiting additional information.

if the key is unused, then I assume its legal. Im not a lawyer and have not looked into this thourghly. if you install the game and go online, it'll tell you that your cd is good or bad. good means you get to play, bad means someone has it.

That means you won't know. If its bad they could get your ip address and sue you.

I could see people selling Guild wars keys online, as the game can be completely d/led, w/ no need for CD's.

they won't sue you iirc, but you wont be able to play online. my advice, dont buy a used game/key if you want to feel safe.

the only way to know if the keys are used or not is to buy one and find out. one would think they are legit.... maybe they dont play the game or something. who knows.
