I just received some round cables today they were made by Vantec. The wires are really exposed almost makes me not trust them. Has anyone else noticed this or is it just this brand. Does it matter? I havent noticed any problems yet but it is still a little unnerving. Its also pretty hard to squeeze a floppy and two ide next to each other with these. I almost think I should have stayed with ribbons they didnt look that bad. Oh well cheap impulse upgrade:)

I have rounded cables too. One I made and 2 I purchased. Yes, my boots don't cover the wires either. I have had them for 2 years with no problems. It's more a nuisance that they don't cover the wires. Kinda of like boxers riding up.

Hope you don't have any problems with yours.

If the rubber coating covered the ends of the wires, you'd lose a LOT of flexibility at the ends. So when you're trying to squeeze it into your case or underneath a video card, you would have problems. There's no reason not to trust them any more than you shouldn't trust the fact that the wires are all clumped together inside that sheath rather than being separated in a ribbon. The sheathing doesn't provide any electrical interference protection.

Thanks for the fast replies. Youre right about the flexibility didnt think about that. I'm glad to hear that I didnt just get some bad cables. They do add a little color to my case:)
