what's with english people and curry?

don't get me wrong, I like my curry as much as the next guy, but I don't get why it's THAT popular in England.

are they reminiscing about the days when they had an empire?

The Empire is indeed the reason Indian cuisine is so popular in England. Mix that with the fact that until the last 10 years or so (they now have some of the best restaurants on earth) native English cooking was the shits and you can see why everyone liked Indian food.

The same holds for other post colonial empires. Good Indonesian food can be found in Amsterdam.

Curry is a British invention, not Indian.

It's a delicious food. After tea and crumpets, it's my go to food when I want to curry favor with my british guests.

is one brand of curry better the the other?? been buying the curry at costco.

Brand of curry? What? If you're buying curry in a jar/can, it's NEVER going to be good. With the exception of Thai curries which can be awesome from a can.

Pataks makes some very nice Curry Sauces/Pastes. For Spice I really have little clue and just have used Spice Cargo, which seems ok, but I'm sure it's mediocre at best.

I like to visit the Sauce section at Grocery Stores and buy different sauces every once in awhile, just to try them out. It's a good way to find something different and many of them have Recipes which can be good as well.
