Whats Using all the Space

I have a C partition with Windows on it formated to 10 gigs. Now when i click to the root of the drive, highlight all folders and files and click properties I get 4.42 gigs of space. Now when I go to My Computer and do the same it says i have 7.75 gigs used up. Whats using the extra 3.5 gigs, or how can i find it. This is beyond a negligible amount of disk space to disappear.

Edit: also I'm trying to transfer a 7 gig file over the network to this file. I want to put it on my D drive with 166 gigs free, but it says the destination is full. This partition is formated FAT32, and C is NTFS. Is there some temp folder in my C drive thats causing this error, or is the file too large for FAT32

Edit2: FAT32 is limited to 4gig files so no need to worry about that ?. The first one still stands though.

go to any folder and go tools and folder options. uncheck hide operating system files. try again. it should be closer now. some of the space is taken for the NTFS files system.

Ahh i found that, I had show hidden files/folders before, I didn't realize they had another level for system files.

Looks like theres a bunch of stuff in "recycler"

EDIT ok I'm retarded, because i emptied all my recycle bins before deleting some more files... hence more files back in the recycle bin. Wow I surprised myself with that one.

If you use the free download of Ace Utilities found on Download.com it will cleanup your harddrive. It has other utilities that might interests you.

Use it for 30 days and if you decide not to purchase it, it will stop working.

You should change the pagefile.sys to your second partition or hdd. I have a 10 gig windows partition and ended up doing that and freed up 2 gigs.

Have you used Ace Utilities?😉

Yes, but I haven't used it lately. Besides, the problem has been solved 🙂

Ace Utilities has:
Removes junk files
Clean System Registry
Erases yourhistory
Fixes invalid shortcuts
Finds duplicate files
Cleans empty folders
Has Auto-Start Manager

It always nice to have a free 30 day program for AT'ers.
