What is the aspect ratio of human vision? Excepting those trippy souls with pH problems and bags over their head of course...

It certainly isn't 4:3.
 
human vision is very wide. stare straight ahead and move your upright finger in a sweep towards the side of your head. you will still see it slighty past 180" other animals have even wider fields of vision
 
Because film studios needed a way to compete with the advent of the television. The old 4:3 ratio (Academy ratio) wasn't good enough so out came the panoramic films (as wide as 2.60:1)
 
You are aware that there is this button on your DVD player's remote called "ZOOM"

Hit that button.

Insta FS view for you. Now see, that is why Widescreen rules, even if you don't want to watch a DVD in widescreen, you don't have to. You have the option with WS DVD's.

I never understood those DVD's that would have FS on one side and WS on the other. Some people are just stupid.

well your basic assumption is that people know about tihs zooming feature. I've said this before most non tech savy individuals wont go pressing any other buttons aside from STOP + PLAY

I have a 32" TV and even I watch all movies in wide screen when I can. Gives you the theatrical feel, plus you don't have large sections chopped off.
