ATI needs to work a little harder...i think next gen will change that ;)

So you would rather have a 8 pipe 128 bit 128 mb card over a 16 pipe 256 bit 256 mb card? Your logic confuses me.

Edit: something tells me those with a 6600gt will be upgrading sooner than those with a x800xl.

OMFG wtf is up with the NV fanboys here.
1. The x800xl will spank the 6600GT in everything then spit on it
2. SM3 does nothing of interest as of yet, it does not impliment better IQ all it does is make it run 'faster' and yet Ati still beat em running 2.0
3. 8pipes vs 16pipes? wtf!

It's really funny because he's likely going to have to replace the 6600GT to run any of the new games with SM3.0 anyway.

it's not really sad, i just think that is all he could afford at the time maybe.

otoh, what is sad is him clinging to sm3 and bringing it into every vga discussion.

Unless developers make games that would run with SM3 *only*, then ATI cards will still do fine.
Haven't you guys read Splinter Cell Chaos Theory review, ATI cards runs faster than Nvidia cards under both SM1.1 and SM3.0

You just named the only reason I am considering a 6800 over an x850.

Then again, if the R520 core is released in time, this will be a moot point.

EDIT: Meant to quote the AOE3 comments

You just will not let that SM3 thought die will you. Don't even compare a 6600 against a 800XL...different league. A 6800GT and 800xl...different story. As for the SM3, give it a rest.

Thank you!

These people talking non-sense was getting on my nerves.

You're welcome...I'm really tired of the entire 6600>6800>800 arguments. They are all nice cards.

true, but twice the ram and twice the pipes is going to help keep the XL alive longer than SM3 will for the 6600GT.

The main advantage of the GT is its $100 cheaper, which can go along ways. He'll only need another $100 to get the card that replaces the 6600GT...
