What's Up With The Galaxy S2 Overheating?

I was all set on getting an S2, but then read somewhere about it overheating. A quick Google search turned up a lot of results pointing to it being an issue. Now I'm afraid of getting one. Anyone here experience any kind of overheating issues?
 
Overheating is an issue if it happens with a idling phone, heating up is normal in usage. Hot is a very subjective term anyway. It might be a legit issue but could also be a case of idiots posting.

An example to illustrate this, if you look at comments posted on Android market about various live wallpapers, 20% comments and 1 star ratings are from people complaining "wallpaper is not there" because they couldn't find it though it's not that hard at all.

Most phones will shut off in case of overheating or they will have either a prompt or throw a code. My HD2 has a unique LED pattern to indicate overheating, I assume the newer phones would have better solutions.
 
The hottest mine has gotten was 40c. That was with some HEAVY usage. With normal usage it reaches 36c sometimes, but usually sits around 30-31 (still with use). It cools back to ~25c pretty quick though. So I guess my answer is no major heat issues. 🙂

This is all according to system info widget. IDK how accurate that is.
 
I read about the international sgs2 overheating if you play the game dungeon defenders and have it charging at the same time.

Otherwise, I don't think it overheats.

Oh yeah, I forgot that when mine hit 40 it was charging at the same time.
 
If you don't overclock, it shouldn't be an issue. The only time I've seen any devices have a problem were when they were overlocked, using cellular data, and in direct sunlight.

I wouldn't worry about it.
 
What they are probably seeing is what the reviewer experienced in the Anandtech article. Basically if the device gets too hot it scales back in an effort to protect the screen. In this case I believe it shows an 'overheat' warning. The likelyhood of it actually getting hot enough to damage components is slim, hell I've had my og droid up to 57c and it still functioned..barely, but point there being that the processors aren't going to crap out during typical usage.

My Inc. just overheated at any given time. Not OCed, not in direct sunlight. Hell, it was only like 50 degrees outside when it would do it. I had to hold it on the AC for it to cool off.

I think it was some sort of hardware failure though. A decent number of people were experiencing the same sort of thing. I finally got BB to give me a new phone.

My SGS2 doesn't get hot. The battery will get warm though after some game playing. I installed a battery widget to confirm this. This also occurs normally when the batt is charging as well. Normal behavior. I had the same issue with my Iphone 3GS.
 
my international SGS2 gets noticeably warm while charging during use, but nothing concerning. I have a rather snug case, but still no issues. when holding the phone, you are practically touching the battery as the plastic guard is so thin. I imagine this works as a decent heat mitigation strategy, but I have no idea if using a case compromises that.

Anyway, nothing that has made me pause. I expect it to be warm while charging and using at the same time.
 
I leave my on full brightness playing games often and no problems. Only gets hot when charged like expected.

The main issue with the SGS2 is that the screen is a crapshoot. The girl at the AT&T store had to go through almost their entire stock to find me one that had an even enough coloration for me to be happy.

Ehhh...that's not very reassuring...especially since I'm looking to get an unlocked one from Newegg or something.

That is why I have avoided unlocked ones. In fact, I blatantly told the AT&T manager that he was going to let me switch out because otherwise I would have bought the phone at Wal-Mart for $50 less.

Yes I bet I am on a list.

Supercurio's app doesn't work for the AT&T version yet so that wasn't an option for me.
