It's my favorite flavor. I just finished the last bag last week. Went out looking for more. First stop was Starbucks, that's where I always get them, they didn't have it. Through the weekend, while I was strolling around doing grocery and apparel shopping with my family, I stopped at two other Starbucks and they didn't have any either. Checked at Walmart, Target and HEB, no luck. Target and HEB did have grounded, non-Starbucks brand, now I like to have whole beans and didn't feel like compromising at two levels. Checked Starbucks site and same, out of stock. Finally found some Starbucks beans on Amazon, will receive them on Wednesday (I have Prime!!). But even on Amazon the selection was pretty limited..

Wondering whats going on, did they have some problem in Sumatra, production went down, they not producing anymore? Its scary when you favorite coffee tends to disappear from the face of the earth... In a few of the past coffee threads I remember other ATOTers mentioning Sumatra too, so what else is closest to Sumatra, I guess I need to move on after this stock runs out...

Doesn't this sound like a problem with Starbucks rather than the country of Sumatra? Take this as an opportunity to branch out and try some good coffee.

If my coffee supplier was out of Kona, my first conclusion wouldn't be that there was something wrong with the island of Hawaii.

SOmetimes suppliers have supply issues. Obviously Starbucks is having one? I can't confirm though I just don't know. Some varietals are only available part of the year. This happens with tea on a yearly basis.

Coffeefool seems to have some Sumatra available, as does GMC and cafealtura:

I suspect starbucks is the only one out.

I know for a fact they are having some supply issues

Thanks for all the brand suggestion guys, will look for them next time I am buying. Starbucks I know has been using some Chinese suppliers and probably serving cheap Chinese stuff as their "house blend" these days, no wonder their cheap a$$ is having problems with getting premium stuff...

I've gotten Caffe Vita's sumatra before, but they no longer have their "Sumatra" beans it's now "Sumatra Gayo River, Organic" and $14 a bag instead of $8. (ASIN: B002XYGMHQ)

The old version was good, I haven't tried this new one.

OP: I also love Sumatra coffee; however, Staqrbucks really blows. It doesnt capture the smokiness or smooth but heavy finish of a true Sumatra bean due to their over roasting. Ive had Sumatra local (in Indonesia) and so far the best Sumatra I can find here in the states at a reasonable price is from Batdorf and Bronson.

Give it a try. You wont be disappointed.
