What's up with females coloring their hair?

Why are females fascinated with coloring their hair. Almost every adult female I know colors their hair. I don't mean pink or green some of the whacked out kids. I'm talking Clairol and all that. They just can't be happy with their natural color so they go and color it.

What I really don't like is when the hair grows out and the roots are all black or brown. Yuck.

A good friend of mine has natural chestnut brown hair. For years she left it alone but now she is lightening it up almost blonde, or more like bronze. Not only is the color not good, but half of her hair is dark brown and the other half is that light bronze. It looks fake! I don't have the heart, nor I guess the right, to tell her it looks awful.

I guess I'm just old fashioned.

i always ask them if the carpet matches the curtains. oh wait...you said NOT the green and pink and all that. nevermind. 😱

I dye my hair because I get bored with the color easily. I do however try to keep it looking nice and stick with a color that doesn't look too strange on me. I've never understood how someone can bleach their hair and then let it grow out so that they have three or four inch dark roots.

yes, I hate that soo much too....

none of my closer female friends have done this, but nearly everyone else that does it that I know looks terrible.

Two of my closer female friends are natural redheads though. I would fall over and die if they did anything to their hair. It already looks so beautiful. There are two other girls that I really like, one has prety much black hair, and the other a nice deep brown. I would really go nuts if any of them did anything to their hair.

Just to get some attention...little do they know that most guys actually pay attention to their *minds* as opposed to their hair...maybe they should try changing the color of that 😉

I don't like it either! My wife colored her hair against my wishes. It's her hair, so of course she can do what she want's with it, but I DON'T like it! BTW, her hair is/was gray from an early age, so it's a big deal to her. But I liked it just fine! :disgust:

I can't stand any non-natural hair, personally.

There was an article in the Washington Post not so long ago that informed me in Japan, one pound of hair dye is sold per woman over 15 per year. Scary.

I'm looking for the article; it was an interesting read. will post it when i find it.

Because horndogs prefer blonds, and women agree with them.
Next to coloring their hair is coloring their skin tone--tanning. I see many 30-something, not-in-a-good-shape women go to a tanning salon regularly.

Beauty is in vain, but it sure aint cheap.

and most of those women that are going to tanning salons all the time will be shriveled up by 35. personally i think that a fake tan (and most of the time you can tell) is gross and not attractive at all. i'd prefer a brunette with fair skin. but then again hair color really doesn't matter to me that much.

is this innuendo?

it's a marketing strategy i do believe.

i saw on one of those female oriented shopping channels a self-tanner. the lady said "you look more healthy when you have a tan."

where the hell did that come from? i hear it all the time. again, that's another marketing strategy as far as i am concerned.

women are trained from an early age to mess with everything. hair, fingernails, toenails, clothes, jewelry, makeup. not that much of that isn't appreciated, but i think it just gets in their heads that that have to mess with something all the time. like the one girl said here, she gets bored with her hair color.

Heck, half the guys around here seem obsessed with shaving their legs, what's a little hair coloring?

There's nothing wrong with dying your hair. I'm a guy and I've dyed my hair numerous times. And my hair reaches almost to my arse! I've got it bright red, dark red, brown, blond, etc, etc.

It just feels nice for a change every once in a while.

That's so disturbing, you don't even know... real men let their hair grow long!!! (well, okay, longer than a couple inches is disgusting) 😛

my natural hair color makes my hair look dirty..... even when its clean. i try to keep the color similar to my natural hair color so that it will look clean. that and i have fun dying my hair...... my roommate and i have little hair dying parties.😉

i think it looks good when they dye it like out there colors like red (really red not fake red) and green and blue, i always liked those punker looking chic's for some reason, my hair is blue btw. 🙂

Right on. It should be a federal offense for a redhead to change hair colour. 🙂

hehehe. there might be another reason some of those women go to tanning salon's.
i knew of one in a town around here (*cough* walnut creek *cough*) that employed a bunch on model type guys that provided other services to the ladies too for extra cash.
works kinda like the massage parlors but this would be for the rich bitches. 😉

AHHAHHAHAHAH!! I Got that one!

The reason blondes are favored is that blondes usually have fair skin, and fair skin doesn't hide blemishes, and being able to see blemishes and not reproduce with someone who has them is good for the gene pool. That's the argument for evolutionary selection some thirty thousand years ago anyway. (or so i've been told)

I agree wholeheartedly about redheads though; those who change their hair are just plain wrong.

There's also the sociological argument that in previous ages fair skin marked a person as not being a pesant. Since only persons who were well-off could afford to stay indoors and not work in the fields, fair skin was a sign of "good breeding" and higher social standing. As society changed and modernised, tans became attactive because in a moden society only the wealthier people can afford to take enough time off of work (which is now largely indoor) to maintain a natural tan by vacationing in exotic locales. That's just the one sociological theory though.

I personally much prefer fair skin and freckles. I'm very happy to be a friend of two females who are essentially unable to tan, they just get a few more freckles. Works out well for me, not only does it look great, but I come off as a very nice guy when I talk about how anyone who thinks these girls are "pastey" is an idiot. 😉

My g/f has light brown hair which she dyes blonde (she makes sure not to let the roots grow out). She was in a fashion show a few weeks ago and they chopped her hair and dyed it RED RED RED and it looked AWESOME. Too bad it lasted all of 3 days 🙁

I've heard that one too, and it seems we could enter into the old nature/nurture debate with as much success 🙂

I'm with you though; nothing special about a tan; would just as soon see someone without.
