why exactly do those paramilitary groups want?

The Paramilitaries run the cocaine trade. Yet here we have is the US govt giving the Columbian military (who are in the pockets of the paramilitaries) a billion dollars in aid to fight the drug war & the FARC guerillas.

The FARC admit quite openly that they don't stop peasants growing coca on the lands they control (they know prohibition doesnt work) & just tax coca producers at the same rate as anyone else. Which is unacceptable to America's kneejerk 'drug czar' Barry McCaffrey. So he's giving a billion dollars in aid to the Columbiam military, to fight the FARC (even though the FARC have the support of the vast majority of Columbia's peasantry who form the bulk of Columbia's population - so much for the US supporting democracy in the 3rd world), yet the Columbian military are in the pocket of the right wing paramilitaries & death squads, who are the ones actually making billions trading & smuggling cocaine.

America's drug war money's really fuking up Latin America, already the Bolivian peasantry is in open revolt, because govt ministers & the bureaucrats took millions in bribes fron the US govt to ban the growing of coca even though Bolivian peasants have had the traditional right to grow coca for thousands of years. The Drug Czar even bribed his way into getting permission to spray a genetically modified fungus across the jungles & hill sides to defoiliate the coca, even though every enviromental authority in the world has banned its use.
