Whats up with all of the spam with gmail

I get a little spam in my Gmail boxes, but my Yahoo (AT&T) mail box gets enough spam to feed all of Hawaii...

I get tons of spam in my spam folder. Probably 50 a day. My inbox gets about one every two weeks.

horray! theres no spam here!

gmail actually has a pretty good spam filter...its way better than hotmail/windows live (my other account).

Gmail has to offer one of the best spam filters going. Like others I hardly see any spam in my inbox but the spam folder quickly fills up with 50 or 60 spams in no time.

have you guys ever had a regular email slip into the spam folder? i usually get the bounceback email (mailer daemon) put in the spam but i rather have that go in my inbox so i know to remove a bad email address.

while the spam filter is great, i have OCD where i have to clea the spam folder right away. i can't stand seeing a number next to "Spam". 🙂

Every so often something real gets in there. I try to clean out the spam folder every day just so I don't have to wade through 1000 emails.

Most of the time it's someone who emails you a lot of an email list or something like that. But once you mark it as Not Spam, it should stop.

My Spam folder seems to get about a dozen hits every six hours. I wish I could just ignore it and hit 'Empty Folder' but I'm always paranoid that something important might have gotten in by accident. Hence I review the folder every time. 🙁

Yeah GMail's spam filter is almost flawless for me.

Quite the contrary here, I notice a LOT of false positives going into the spam bin. Some of it very important stuff too.

get about 10 a day, but don't really use my gmail account. Now, if only yahoo could filter out the Nigerian scammers I would be happy.

Every once in a while, I get a string of days that have multiple spam in my inbox... after about a week it clears up.

My gmail account accumulates about 20-30 spam emails a day. My regular ISP account is now pushing 100 spam emails a day.

Plus I have to deal with the spam sent to two websites I babysit. That's another 20 a day even though I have spam filtering configured on those sites. Without the spam filtering, it would be 5x that amount.

I really hope someone comes up with a solution to this because having 95% of all email I receive being spam is making it just about unusable. My wife won't even use email any more unless I clean out her inbox. The day she saw 50 emails arrive, all of which were spam, she just said forget it. If she needs to talk to someone, she'll call them. So I have to delete all the spam out of her inbox, and tell her if there's an actual email there for her.

If I got 5 emails a day and 4 were spam, I could deal. 100 emails a day of which 95 are spam, it's a real chore.

You pretty much need a non-dictionary or common name @ a non-gmail,hotmail,yahoo or mainstream and never ever post it on the web to be free from those evil bastards.

I normally have a pretty liberal filter in place that sends most automatically to my trash bin. I will add entire domain names as well(I receive nothing from aol or cox because of their spambots and their unwillingness to fix it). I'll even report the offender to the host and/or their registrar.

Yeah, I figure the prime reason I get so much spam at my ISP address (which is a small, local ISP) is that I've had the same email address since 1998 and I was once on a Listserv which decided to archive the messages on a website. That's where my email address got harvested. The daily volume of spam just keeps creeping upward.
