just give it time. this time around nvidia just launched 3 cards, with two of which are using the same core. previous hard launches were just for one card (7800gtx, 7800gt, 7800gs etc). so imo, OOS for the first week of launch is to be expected until the later batches arrive

Just about every (r)etailer is out of stock. Is this just due to abnormally high demand, or is due to a lack of supply in real quantities. For comparison, I don't think I've ever seen all the X1900XT(T)'s sold out anywhere since they launched.

...yeah, yeah, I know I already got one, but that was just luck on my part. I happen to have Monday off from work, and I decided to see what Monarch had in stock at their retail showroom. They only had very few of the non-OC'ed eVGA 7900GTXes (no XFX available at all) and only the very mildly OC'ed (overpriced) BFG 7900GT's in stock, all the other GT's were sold out. A buddy of mine just signed up for a step-up through eVGA from a 7800GT to a 7900GT CO, and apparently eVGA won't have a card for him for 4-8 weeks.

My step up is on the way!

Newegg has both the BFG and XFX 7900GT in stock.

ZipzoomFly also has a XFX 7900GTX instock at 519.99

Mwave has just about everything in stock.

I'ver read on evga's forums that their haveing stock troubles with the 7900GTX's, but the 7900GT's should come in by the end of next week. (luck me and my 7900GT's) So I guess it's more bad news if you stepped up to a 7900GTX?

I think the initial batch of any GPU's and CPU's will be sold out. What is important is going from the 2nd week onward if there is a supply shortage or not. If no, then it can either mean no one is buying the cards aside from the fanboys OR it means that the company in question is able to supply enough to keep up with demand. I wouldn't put any blame on nVidia not being able to supply video cards until after the 4th week. If supply is still insanely tight after the 4th week then that means there is a supply problem since I doubt it is a problem selling cards as nVidia and ATI should be pretty good judges of how much cards they can sell roughly each week.

The 7900 family was available in Germany only on the first day, probably a couple of units only for show. All websites and search engines show cards out of stock, with "unkown" delivery dates.

This is definitely not like the 7800 launch. You could buy it anywhere.

And the prices listed are very high. You pay like 20% more for a 7900GTX in comparison with a X1900XT.

On the other hand, the X1900XT is available everywhere since launch. Sometimes Sapphire is out of stock, but you can pick a Powercolor, Club3D, MSI or Asus.

Umm I'd say the 7900GT is hotter than LAVA considering it can be made into close to 7900GTX fairly easy. When you can hang with $450+ dollar cards for $299 you won't last long on the shelves. If you see one....don't think buy.

I'm confused. Not sure what you meant by your post.

If you mean where I sit as in Reds or Greens?
I have just bought two 7900 GT's, own an X1900 XTX, 6800 Ultra Go, 6800 GT and a 9700 Pro. What does that make me? Reds or Greens?

And irrespective of demand, in the UK Nvidia has not fulfiled hard launch stock promises.
Most UK stores didnt even get it till the monday after the launch.

True, but only in the last quarter. They seem to flip flop the lead from quarter to quarter. If you're counting all GPUs sold (integrated, mobile, desktop etc) ATI still has the lead albeit by 1 percent.

In the discrete market, ATI and Nvidia are the only major players. Nvidia took 52 per cent of the market and ATI most of the remaining 48 per cent. Nvidia passed ATI in Q3, taking just over 50 per cent of the quarter's sales, according to JPR, up from 46 per cent in Q2. ATI, by contrast, saw its share fall 52 per cent to 48 per cent.

I just bought one today, its been like a week after launch and I got a great deal too 289.99 USD, cant beat it for a 7900GT :)

A lot of online merchants are almost completely sold out, also I see newegg jacking up the price as well.

Nothing against the UK but the demand there has to be dwarfed by that of the US. Is it possible that NVidia even underestimated the demand of their cards? I'm not defending them because nothing irritates me more than not being able to get what I want when I want it (computer parts - not things in life). But if you saw the thread about the usage statistics done by Valve, Nvidia cards tromp ATI in user numbers and especially SLi vs. Crossfire. Though those folks represent a very small percentage of overall users (less than 1%??? Is that correct?).

Anyway, add all that up and the smaller markets (i.e. the UK) will see the crunch of popularity first. Can you guys get XBox 360's on the shelf there? You still don't see them here and it's been what? 4 mos? I saw someone else say this, but I wouldn't be concerned until a couple weeks have passed and stores are still out and prices are going up. It's still kinda early, don't you think?

That does'nt make it a paper launch.. Many people here are getting them unlike some products by certain vendors which no one could get. Makes it poor planning.
