That's my take. Actually Obama's overall bearing is kind of similar to David Palmer's (Dennis Haysbert) - they both have a reassuring calmness and steadiness (unlike Charles Logan and/or GWB!).

in all seriousness I think they're just trying to keep up the suspense as far as political figures go; no character, not even the president is sacred (only Bauer at the present appears to be sacred...for the time being), and with different individuals you get to see different responses to the demands placed on the White House occupant. Palmer is not Logan (especially when Logan first assumes presidency during 4th season).
